berry vines require a rich, dry and mel
low soil, and thorough mulching. This
is all that good 'bearing vines need to
produce an abundehee of fruit. Keep
poultry away froul the vines in the for
mer part of the - growing season, as they
will "pick all 'the buds out," and des
tro-y the crop cf fruit. Do not allow a
hoe - nor any other tool that will mutil
ate thp-roots, to.he used near the hills,
until after the crop has been gathered.

Judge Grier, of the U. S. Supreme
Court, Was once trying a case in Penne
Sylvania. A blundering jury returned
an unjust verdict. As the Clerk turned
to receive it, Judge Grier, said ;
Mr. Clerk, that verdict is set aside

stood that in this State id takes thirteen
men to steal a man's fare.' •
