NEW BUILDINGS.—Mr. Isaac Sears
showed as through bis new house the other day,
east end of Alain Street, which is nearly comple
ted. It is a commodimm house, convenient, and
substantially built; and when hnished will add
mach to the lower end of town.
—Mr. Ferdinand itobinspn- has his dwelling
under headway, which, by the way, will be a very
pleasant residence when completed. Its location
is the first lot east of the' Episcopal parsonge, on
Walnut street.
CLOSE 'OF ScitooLs.—Friday of last
. week was the cl4e of our village schools. The
afternoon was bearitifed ; the boys and girls came
out in their holiday attire, ns has been the' habit
of school boys and school girls these runny years.
Such a scone of happy, ebeerfal, all elated faces,
gladdens the hearts of all, and awakens happy
recollections of the distant 'childhood,' all beauti_
ful, pure and fresh'as the morning.
We were glad to notice' quite a large number
of visitors present—parents, Directors, and oth-0
era. We are sure they enjoyed the afternoon.
There was speaking and sinking by many pu
pils. They acquitted themselves well. The sing.
' log added greatly to the enjoyment of the exer
cises. We shill be glad when music, is.taught in
all our schools.
Thera are three leachers and about one, bun,:
Bred and fifty pupils. The rolls bear more names.
The term has been eight months, with a vacation
over tho holidays. That is ti'long term ; but the
interest has been well sustained, though die
.at
tendance, has not been as regular as be
fore the -spring opened. That is not at,rge;
considering ene' temptation to be Outdoors these
pleasant days„ . - Older people can scarcely keep
their offices and places of business.
If any have not madelped progressl it is not,
the fault of the teachers.- They are all comps=
tent, faithful, efficient. They deserve credit, not
only for the discipline they him maintained, and
the instruction" they have imparted,, bitspeoiallyl
for taking gond care of the Potiooli.4tus. Spaccf
