that
that hour this miracle was wrought among the
sons of the tribe of Itlipus every monient to this
day, the victims, ranginglienrbim whose annual
portion amounted to the Eteward'g fao of a thous

he was sirnightway
seized with apprehensions that his own portion
would be diminished thereby, and began to la

Cobrecephalos and struck its fangs into the sel

charged into a Cobrecephalos in a twinkling, and
went away to swell the family of serpents. And
so it same to be that the Cobrecephalos could
only reproduce itself by the transfusion of its

The Duhiuses wash well. J'orty days and forty
nights of rain could not drown them., All the

some horrible Cobreeephalos stings one of them,
and the victim takes on the form and -habits of

BROOKFIELD LocAL,—Brookfielci, sit
uated in the northwest corner of Tioga county,
is neither city nor village, but a hilly, fine graz
ing, dairy region. Some of the best butter sent
into the Now York markets is from this place.—
Tho farms are well wooded, and thei numerous
creeks and sptrings afford 'Amity of pure, fresh
water.
The scenery here is beautiful indeed. IVo tro'd
not exchange our "beautiful -hills" for tho vast
prairies of the West, or the level fields of Niagara
county, N.
Most of the people here own good tdzed farms,
which produce enough fur them to live coinforta
bly. .
Fruit this year, promises to ho very plentiful,
indeed ; we have already had any quantity of
straw berrhis.
Improvemtnts are ta.n.dantly being made. Mr.
J. thatilier and Mr. Wm. Simmons have bad
their houses painted inside and out. Mr. .1). W.
Nobles new house is almost completed.
Mr. Hoffman, John It. Coffin, John Simmons,
and many other farmers have been building new
barns.
Rev. C. Loivell, by his energy and perseverance
in the matter, succevded in raising enough money
o repair and tit up our Methodist Church.
Our diarist school succeeds finely : Miss Laura
Warren end Miss Amy Parker, being young la
dies well pialilied for teachers.
Including that part of Brooklield - ealltd Troup's
Creek, we have four churches, five school houses,
two stores, three blacksmith shops, a cheese fac
tory and post office.
In fact, Tioga county should bo proud of this
place, and as we stand and gaze upon the broad
meadows, the green pastures, the beautiful' woods,
tho waving fields of grain; the thrifty orchards,
and last of all, the blue hills in the distance, we
are struck with the beauty of the scene, nrul we
cannot help exclaim, "Long live Brookfield,"

TiooA LOCAL.—In order to show no
partiality in regard to improvements in the out
skirts, I must say that Morrice Kenteh has built
a neat republican house, and Barny Tahor has
greatly improved his house and yard by building
a picket fence, and making other improvement:.
They also has e in the same locality a small but
well supported Sabbath School, superintended by
Rev. C. Oti. Thatcher.
