• COUNTY FINA.NCES.—The Annual
Statement of the COmmissioners allows fair prog
ress from a state of indeldeduen to ouo of uom
parativo-freethyai from debt. Iha entire debt of
the county in Jan. 18613 was - $169.475.84. Upon
this indebtedness the sum of $3,2.3 . 15.95 was paid
dUriog the year, leaving the debt at present $157.
129.95. Irt addition - to payment of principal,
$13.758.70 has been paid in interest—making a
total ofellsbursements on debt account of $50.104-
65.
The l i t rinary expenses of the county • during
the ye were, exclusive of County House aooouut,
about 00.000. The cost of the County House,
includitig balanco paid builder and interest on
mortgage,. was $1111)03.60. Of this sum the town
ships are changed with $4821.55, leaving for the
county the sum of $13.282,05. From this latter
sum deduct the property on hand Jan, 1, 180—
$3142.51—and the nett cost of mainting the insti
bitten appears to be $8.139.54, The actual cost
per week for each inmate was about $l.BB, inclu
ding ererything.
The greater number of the persons lodged in
the CountyHouso' by the townships were too
infirm, or too young to be of much use on the
ifarm, Ma y- of these persons required extra
bands to ti re for them. The Management of the
establishm nt is worthy of highest praise, and the
Superintendent, Mr. Tabor, has earned deserved
credit for executive abilities of the highest order,
as well as for a happy, faculty of winning the
esteem of the inmates,
by a kindness and con
sideration for their oomfort as rare as i 4 le noble.
