Our own ex perience will always tell us that if in sufficient sleep is had on one night:it will be followed' by a - day 'of ' Yawning, of discomfort, of disagreeable droWsi ness, and insufficiency in , whatever calling, profethilon, or employment we may - engage. ' All physiologists agree that the first step towards madness is an insufficiency of sleep, whether co polled or voluntary. The babe gets fr i t ful when its sleep is broken in up n. KENNY CATS EXPLAINED PM —A rev :tv Of an entertaining volume, - entitl" The Book of Catsi" gives the i, follow , lig account of the origin of the popu ar tradition regarding the Mil ken y cats.- In the time of- William th 9 Third, the English soldiers station s in Kilkenny used to divert them - elves with cat fights. In the course of ime the., 'idea was evolved of tying the tails of a ouple together, and flinging them eve a clothes-line, leaving them to fight it out. This diversion gained f such pop larity that a great scarcity of cats ensued in the town and measures were taken to put a stop to the slaugh ter. So, ,when heninformation reached head quarters that two cats were. lighting it out on a certain line in the barracks an officer and a squad were sent to arrest the men engaged in witnessing the di version. The culprits heard the tramp ;., "on the stairs of the approaching party. Quick as thought the windows of the 'room were thrown• up, and the cats freed from each other by cutting off their tails. These suspended 'from the line were all that was to be seen by the intruders. " Begorra " cried one of them, as he examined the caudal rem nants, " how the devils must hay e fought. They've just alien each other entirety, and left naught but their tails behind. them." A 'very talkative little girl used often to annoy her mother by making re marks about visitors that came to the 'house. ,On one occasion a gentleman was expected whose; nose bad been ac cidentally flattened nearly to his face. The mother cautioned the child to say nothing about this feature.' Imagine her consternation when the little one suddenly exclaimed ; Ma, you told me g to say nothin about Mr. Smith's nose. AFTER. twenty years experience in the man ufacture of stoves, wti became convinced, some six years since, that u vasi amount of money was being expended by the peoplo of this country, in buying cheap and worthless stores, a large portion of .which was wasted; and that true economy consisted in buying the best stoves that could be' made, notwithstanding the _price was higher. With this view we proceeded to construct the American Cooking Stove, find spared no pains or expense to make it the best and most perfect stove that'could be made. And we have experimented with it, and carefully watched its operation for the last six years, and when an, improvement suggested itself. co have at once adopted it, and wo have several of these improvements secured by letters patent. ,In this manner we do not hesitate to say, we have brought it to a higher state of perloction than has heretofore been attained in cooking stoves. The recent improvements in this stove has added largely to its convenience and effective ness. In all tho varieties of stoves we manu facture, we study usefulness, durability, conve nience and economy in opekation, rather than cheapness in price, and in so ileing we aro satis fied we , study the interest of those purchasing our Stoves.
