Tuesday evening of last week. Tho snow 'lay
between 2. and 3 feet deep in our streets, while
the higher lands around us aro said to have been
cohered to a depth of 4 feet:- The storm teom
menced Sunday evening Ist inst., and continued
with little abatement until Monday afternoon.—
Tuesday morning the mercury marked 23 degrees
telow zero, at4l still the air was filled with'
snow. The meroury held near zero all day
Tuesday, and there 11 , 10 a sharp gale toward
night. All agree that this is the hardest • winter
rtmembervd in this county. -
A wintry 3fareh is not usually regarded as Un
favorable. But many of our farmers are shed of
hay, and the prospect is not inviting. The wells
are generally dry, the sfiiiims low, and the roads
of the hill townships are almost 4mpassable. In
Farmington the feed is about exhausted, and,
tome farmers have begun to kill their sheep, to,

THE AUDITOR GENERAL has submit
ted a list of the indebtedness of the several
counties ors account. f &site tax. The indebted
ness of Time. County is put at $.14.847.97; to
which must be added ?417.69, penalty. The
cause of this indebtedness is; chiefly, this The

(lora to the lowest 'notch for more than twenty
years. The Board of Revenuo Commissionera
01:110 eight years ago, we believe, raised the vald.-
anon 25 per cent. Instead of assessing upon
this increased valuation the assessors kept on at
the old eastern; and so the county fell behind
1500 or so every year. trobably a tenth of the
indebtedness occurred from exonerations made
by the Commissioners and not yet- allowed by the
Auditor General. But the bulk of it arises front
our devotiOn to a system °finite values ; and now
, must pay for it. Only six. counties aro out of
debt to the State. Philadelphia is about 5330. 000
btbind. Lyeoming more than $24,000 behind,
