• A COMMON DITTY.—The copious ails
of the season have greatly assisted to cleanse
lager of much pestilence-breeding filth which,
under other circumstances, Must have been re.-
moved by householders. lieweVer, something
4till remains to be done to put, every. village on a
health footi r Og. There is a great deal of waste
still remaining in bulk, and thwarm weather
near at hand will soon make it appare t to the
senses. 'Every householder who has a proper re:
gard for the the health of his family and neigh
bors will at once_ set about purifying his sinks
and drains. Perhaps the most nexious accurnii.l
lation is Ititchen'slope rind waste. Particular at
tention should be given ,to conducting this filth
away from the premises. Entess the drains used
for this purpose aro connected with running wa
ter it is best•to throw the slops broadcast upon
the garden, and never too much in one place. It
is to be hoped that our citizens will pay-attention
tq this important matter without delay.
'SOUTHERN RhLIEF.— We have re-

• •
Ydrk Southern Relief Associations, voluminous
evidence of the distressful flanine in the South,
'coupled. with urgent petitions for aid from the
people of the North. The Committee appointed
.1
,for Wellsboro by the Philailqphia Association has
entered upon tibe discharge of its duty, and sub
„seriptions willtbe received at the stores of Messrs.
Bowen and Irden, and at the Agitator Office.—
All moneys re eived will be acknowledged in . the
county papery and at once forwarded to James
M, Aertson, Philadelphia. As regards tho nature
and object of this charity, we can pronounce it
to be the most laudable. Thousands of families
are without aacquate sustenance or means to pro-
Cure it. The groat drought of last summer which
prevailed in the South, added to the devastations
of war, reduced the middle and poorer classes to
the point of starvation. Let us all give of our
surplus to save them from the terrible pangs of
famine. As an example of liberality worthy of
imitation we may mention that the citizens of
Jersey Shore and vicinity have sent upward of
:MOO to the parent Association at Philadelnhia.—
Let us all remember that Charity it= pronounced
the crowning virtue by the Great Master. . ,
