We have tried in our family the fol
lowing receipts,. and find them to be,
worthy of adoption:
Pd CROPS .L.ND STEA.K.S.—CU froln
the best end of the loin, or from the
chnMn or leg if steaks ; remove the fat
and skin • turn them frequently and
quickly while broiling. If thegridiron
be -of the old fashion, it is better to keep
it asst on. the fire. The handle- being
the lowest-part it urevents very - - much
of the fat from falling into the fire, the
flare of w hich is apt to impart a disa
greeableflavor to the chops. This ob
servation applies also to mutton chops,
and it is useful if followed. - Sprinkle
them With salt when done, and rub
with a little fresh butter previous
,servirq ; if for a side dish, garnish with
crispea parsley.

good and economical stew for dinner.
Take a - shoulder of mutton of lamb,
stew It well, then make a dressing of
tomatoc-a, trots, and a little onions,

and dry it in the oven with a slow fire
until -- CT the ' moisture is extracted,
when it will bein a dry, hardthin layer,
which may be packed away in a dry
place until' required for use. Be -care
ful to dry, not to cook or bake it while
in the stove oven. When required for
use, soak it over night In sweet milk.
By following these directions you may
have pumpkin pies all the year round.
A newspaper editor inadvertently
wrote about a woman who had not been
buried with proper observance, the fol
lowing sentence :
" She was buried like a dog with her
clothes on."
Next week be saw his mistake, and
corrected thus:
" She was buried with her clothes on
like a dog."
The third week, exasperated with the
previous blunders, he had it thus:
" Like a dog with her clothes on she
was buried."
He gave it up.

SEC. 2. To those who have lost both feet, or
are totally disabled in the same 30 as to require
constant attendance, the sum of 220.

foot, or ate to disabled as to render them unable
to perform manual labor equivalent to the loss of

SEC. 4. Persons who have been deprived of
thsir pensions under act of March 3,1863, io Cub

Slates Government, are restored.
,SEC. 5. Pensions are extended to dependent
fathers and brothers, as well as to mothers and
sisters.
In addition to the above act, to such petunias
are embraced by it, Congress, before Its close,
Juty 25, 1866, passed a toll granting. additional
bounties, and - also one increasing the pension
widows and orphans, and ex,tendini, Fhu benefits
of the pension taws to the heirs and repietents
