8.111)T landsELP.—We have learned
the brief particulars of a sad accident resulting
it the death of a boy ; named Otis Butler, of Del
mar, on the Bth inst.
It seems that the deceased and a younger
bather were together•in the house, and during
the temporary abEence of the grown up people,
Otis went into the bedroom and undertook to
bring out a loaded rifle, the ramrod of which Wag
left in the barrel. Ho dragged the gun along
after him, when, in crossing the threshold; the
hammer caught and the charge exploded, sending
both bullet and ramrod through his head. He
tired until the rod was withdrawn, when he bled
death.
L”adeld guns should not be left about in the
each of children. •

Prof. VERRILL, of the Mansfield Nortgal

THE RAILROAD QUESTION
Nov; Bth, 186 F
FRIEND AOITATOIL: " The Railroad" which you were
kind enough to lay before your readers a few weeks ago,
has not been graded to any • great extent. Before gra
ding it, Would it nut be well to consider the qUesticin
of routes? There-As a route running through Darn
tettlement and down Lamb's Creek, of fair grade, by
which Tioga can be reached in less than fifteen miles
from Wellaboro. It could not be twelve miles to the
Tioga It. It. by this route. t 5 bet herlhe route to Elmira
would lie up the .alley of Mill Creek, or through a
pass lower down, is a question to be determined by
distance and.grade. A road should be built on the'best
foot*, and care should be exercised in selecting it. The
teople of this vicinity are in favor of the route here
proposed, but that should not determine its utility_ A
careful examination of the ground end facilities, and a
otreful (oileidelation of all questions relating to the
building of such a road, should alone determine where
and bow it should he built. We are in faver r of a rail
road and want one in the best place asnear as we can
get it. We want it to run from Wellaboro to some
point on the N.Y. & brie. think it can be built, are.
willing to help build lt,:and • hope enough- others are
willing to have the locomotive whistling through our
hills and vales bebre two - yeara have gone by. We have
but to move in the mutter to have it done. We will
move that a petition be circulated for a charter "for said
road, to be presented to the Legislature next winter,
and that as 110012 as convenient,itooka—bo-opened for
subscription to the capital stock. Charleston, whose
citizens were not slack in the matter of bounties'dn•
ring the war will build her share of the road and pat
ronize it to the extent of her ability, and her ability is
quite considerable when the question of majorities for
freHlom and its advocatcs come up. Let all in favor of
the rood .ay "Aye." Its opponents will speak forth
also if they desire to be - heard. They are not the

Ayer's Pil]A.
A BE yon 31033, feeble and core
..a. plaining? Are you out of or.
der—.your system derangedssand
your feelings uncomfortable 7
These symptoms are often the pre
cursors of serious illness. Some
fit of sickness is creeping upon you, and 3130a1d
be averted by a timely use of the right Mindy.
Take Ayer'e Pills, and drive out the humors—
purify the blood, and let the fluids move on on
obstructedly, in health. They stimulate the or
gans of the body into vigorous activity, parity
the system from the obstructions which make dia.
ease. A cold settles somewhere in the body, and
deranges the natural operations of that part.—
This, if not relieved, will react upon itself and
the surrounding organs, producing general ag
gravation, suffering and derangement. While in
this condition, take Ayer's Pills, and see how di
rectly they restore the natural action of the sys
tem, and with it the buoyant feeling of health.—
What is true and sa apparent in this trivial and
common complaint, is also true in many of the
deep seated and dangerous diseases. The same
purgative expels them. Caused by similar [in
structions and derangements, they are surely, and
many of them rapidly, cured by the same means.
None who know the virtue of these Pills will neg
lect to employ them when suffering from the dis
orders they cure, such as headache, foul stom
ach, dysentery, bilious complaints, indigestion,
derangement of the liver, costiveness, constipa-;.
tion, heartburn, rheumatism, dropsy, , 1011318 and
suppression, when taken in arge dose.
They are sugar coated, so that the most sensi
tive can take them easily, and they are surely
the best purgative medicine yet discovered.
Ayer's Ague Cure,
For the speedy and certain Cure of intermittent
Fever, or Chills and Fever, Remittent Fever,
Chill Fever, Dumb Ague, Periodical Headache,
or Bilious Headache, and Bilious Fevers; in—
deed for the whole class of diseases originating
in biliarg derangement, caused by the malaria of
miasmatic countries.
This remedy bas rarely failed to cure the Se
verest cases of Chills and Fever, and it has this
great advantage over other Agee medicines, that
it subdues the complaint without injury to the
patient. -IC contains no quinine or other delete—
rious substance, nor does it produce quinism or
any injurious effect whatever. Shaking broth
ers of the army and the west, try it and you will
endorse these assertions.
