TEE liza.corr AND THE CLAks.—Good
old Deacon S. lived aud farnied it away
down in eastern Connecticut. It was
his custom to go with- several of his
neighbors, nearly every year, down to
the shore for a Cara-bake. The old
Deacon was very fond of these bivalves,
and on one occasion he ate and over
loaded his " capacity" to such an extent
that he was sore distressed. His faith
in prayer, however, was strong. Leav
ing his party, and being followed by
some of the younger members a little
way off, he was heard to supplicate thus:
" Forgive me, 0 Lord, for this great
sin of gluttony, and I will never eat any
more clams f." Then pausing a moment,
he added, " Very few, if any. Amen."
ONE OF THE PENNSYLVANIA-VS.—Old
Ricketts was a man of labor, and had
little or no time to devote to speculation
on the future. He was, withal,, rgther
uncouth in the use of language. One
day, while engaged in stopping hog
holes about his place, he was approached
by a colporteur, and presented with a
tract.
" What's all this about?" demanded
old Ricketts.
" That, sir, is a book describing the
celestial state," was the reply.
"Celestial State!" said Ricketts, "in
what section is that?"

Good News to Soldiers and their
Heirs.
A LL who have any interest in war claims,
,bIL. will find it to their advantage to read the
following sots of Congress which have recently
become law :
Sac. Ist of an act of June 6, 1865, provides for
all soldiers or gallon who have lost the sight of
both eyes, or both hands, so as to require con—
stant attendance, the sum of $25.
Sac. 2. To those who have lost both feet, or
are totally disabled in the stuns so as to require
constant attendance, the sum of $2O.
Sao. B. nose who have lost one hand one
foot, or aro so disabled as to render them unable
to perform manual labor equivalent to the loss of
a band or a foot, the sum of $l5.
Ste. 4. Persons who have beenlieprived of
their pensions under act of March 3,1/65, in con.
sequence of being in the civil service of the U.
States Government, are restored.
SEC. 5. Pensions are extended to dependent
fathers and brothers, as well as to mothers and
sisters.
In addition to the above act, to such personae
aro embraced by it, Congress, before its close,
July 25, 1866, passed a bill granting additional
bounties, and also one increasing the pension to
widows.and orphans, and eatending the benefits
of the pension laws to the heirs and representa—
tives of certain invalid applicants, to wit:
SEO. 2 Of the act of July 25, 1866, provides for
pensions to widows of deceased soldiers or sail—
ors having children by such soldiers or sailors,
et the rate of two dollars per month for each
child of soldier or sailor under the age of sizteen
yews.
Sec. 8 gives an increase of pensions to those
widows now receiving &pension of less than eight
dollars per montb, except Revolutionary widows.
BOUNTIES.
This act provides a bounty of one hundred dor.
late to all three years' men enlisting since April
IP, 1881, and fifty dollars to all two years' men
Who enlisted since said period.
The above is additional to the $lOO or $5O
bounty provided for in previous acts.
Blanks will be forwarded to all who wish my
assistance in the collection of these claims, with
proper instruction!.

mites east of Knozville, takes this method of
informing the inhabitants of Tioga and adjoining
counties that he will manufacture wool by the
yard or on shares tosult customers, into

The machinery has been thoroughly repaired
and new machinery added thereto, also an im
proved new wheel which will enable him to work

ner, having added one new Roll Machine, will
enable him to dispatch and accommodate people

treadles, throws the shuttle, lets MI the web, and takes
up the cloth. It makes the upper shed as the batten
comes fqrward, and beats up the filling after the cross
is made, making better cloth and better selvage than
can be made in any otber way.
It is the only hand loom that is suitable
for weaving wool,
as no loom thatinakee all the shed as the batten goes
back, will weave wool satisfactorily.
It has no strings to stretch and get out of order ; has
treadles at both sides of the loom, making the shed
complete at both sides.
This loom Is made to weave the different kinds of
cloth, by simply changing the pine that make the up
per shed.
