I. Society is the crystallization of individuals,
a elements or atoms. If the elements be good,
the crystal will be pure, and flawless.
2. Society stratifies into classes,: because the
elements are not homogeneous. The lane of

we have upper, and lower; and middle classes.
In malting a weld, if a - scale forms between

aranfies, a scale forms between classes, and no
mount of hammering can merge them.

Monday .- evening of lent, week, and :closed with
the celebrtttion of the forty-fourth anniversary of
the institution Wednesday evening. Monday
evening was devoted to the senior class of boys,
and the exercises were made up of declamation,
composition, and recitation, all reflecting wach .
credit upon teachers and pupils. -Tuesday after
noon was devoted to an exhibition by the • senior
.clatia of young ladies, consisting of reading and•
recitation for prizes. It was such an exhibiticiti
of progress as any school might properly be proud
of. Virednesda s y afternoon the juniors had their
exhibition, comprising declamation - and reeitti
thin, which is highly spoken of.
The anniversary exercises Wednesday evening
- were exceedingly interesting. The recitations
?were I .eneraliy auperioroefforts, and in some eases
evinced a high order of histrionic talent. Sava
ral of the essays were superior, and none below
ediocrity.

The Valedictory, by Miss McCarter, won high
praise from all. It evinced strength of mind,

much for her in the future. We speak-of this ef

We would like to speak of some of - the essays and
recitations as freely. That, however, would be
improper, where all did so well in competition:—
It is enough to say that - the graduates may well
feel proud of their training, and the teachersMaY
be proud of their pupils.
4 After the valedictory, the roll of honor was
read, prizes delivered, and diplomas conferred.. 7,
