the custom in;France to give to young

vation of anatomists, lately made, it ap
pears that the clavicle, or collar bone, is
actually longer in females of the French
nation than those of the English. As
the two_ nations are of the Caucasian
race, as, there - is no' other remarkable
difference in their bones, and this ispe
culler to the sex, and it may be attribu
ted to the habit above mentioned, which
by the extension of the arms, has gradu
ally produced - a national elongation of
this bone: Thus we -see •that habit may
