this village are nightly crowded - We have
no record of the nutaber of conversions, bat the

age of the law exempting real estate from taxa
tion for State purposes. The first section pro
vides that cashiers of all banks in the State shall
collect, annually, froni every stockholder in,their
respective banks, a tax of one per cent. upon-the
par value of the stock held by said stockholder,
and pay the same into the State treasury on or
before the first day of July of every year. com
meaning with the current year, : said stoik to be
exempt from all other taxation under State laws.
Section 2 provides that every railroad, canal,
or transportation company incorporated under the
laws or the State, and not liable - to income tax
under existing laws, shall pay a tax of_f of one
per cent= upon their gross receipts.
Section 3 provides that the" funds so raised be
applied to Ike payment vf the dihrcentracteti for
war purposes in 1881.
Section 4 exempts real estate from any levy of
tax for State purposes from and after the passage
of the Act.

perhead members of both Houses from its intro
duction up to the final passage. On the last vote
they whipped over and-went for it.
