ark, of Andover Theologioal Seminary. And a
discourse will be delivered by the Rev. Dr.
Mark Hopkins, oommemorative of the Fiftieth
Anniversary of the Board.
The OW School Preabytery of Philadelphia; at
a recent meeting, took the following action with
respect to the Sabbath :
Women's, The Sabbath is of Divine autheritY,
and its true °beery's:toe is essential not only
morality and religion, but to the physioltritud
temporal welfare of mankind ; and,
Whereas, There is now a systematic and an
-earnest effort PO to modify legislation at to re
move to a great degree the barriers to Sabbath
desecration ;
And, Whereas, The Church is bound to guard
the ordinanoes and Institutions of reliAlon, not
simply by preaohing the truth, but to watch
against and mist endeavors boldly to introduce
error both in faith and tractile. Therefore,
Resolved, That this Presbytery look with an:•
iety and alarm upon the present movement
against the holy Sabbath.
Reacted, That Presbytery regard it as the
duty of all our members to use all proper and
predicable efforts to guard against the aforesaid
evil.
Bathed, That we regard the subject of such
importanoe, sod of such relations to the whole
State, as,to render it worthy the attention and
decided , action of our Synod at its approaohing
session.
Resolved, That the above preamble and resoln
`, Cons be publicly read from all our pulpits on
next Lord's day.
We are pleased to see that this venerable body
so decisively rejects the Dr. Thornwell theory of
the nature and dillies of the Church, which has
juut now run to seed in the unfortunate Positions
taken by Dr. Scott in California, as noticed by
us In other columns.

First Premium Business Penmanship.
We understand that our County Fair has not
y e t made an award in reference to the exhibitors
of penmanship, but we have just seen a letter
from the Secretary of the Fine Arts department
of thedate Ohio State Fair, at Zsneerille. stating
that the first premium for business penmanship
was, awarded to Duff's College As the penman
ship of nearly all the prominent Commercial Col
leges in the West was there in competition, this
award confirms all that has been previously
claimed for Mr. Duncan's superiority as a pen
man. With such men as the author of Duff's
Book-Keeping. and the author of Duncan's ciams
of Penmanship, at the head, of the accouhtint's
and penman's departments, the establishment
must maintain its long established position in ad

Olome Institute
An Institution with more decided advantages,
and conducted with more eminent usefulness or
ability is rarely to be met , with in any section of
our country.
Mrs. French, is to the knowledge of all, an
able instructress, and her mind is wonderfully
adapted to teaching. As a soholar she its. able
to discover immediately any deficiency in the
teachers in her employ, and consequently to en
pervise, as every principal of a school ought to
be able to do, every branch of studies. In addi
tion to the facilities afforded by the possession of
all the necessary apparattm connected with In
stitutions of learning, Mrs. French has secured
the valuable services of distinguished Professors
of Jefferson' College, who, timing the coming
Session, will lecture her pupils on snot) , subjects
as will greatly facilitate their acquisitions.
We had the pleasure of witnessing last
week the examination on Commencement day, and
we were particularly pleased with the real
talent exhibited by the young ladies in their
literary produotipns. The teacher able to incul
cate such principles in the minds of her pupils,
and to endow them with the power of expressing
these principles in such beautiful language, is by
no means an ordinary preceptress. The music
also was good and well performed, notwithstand
ing the absence of Prefessor _Fisher, - who for three
years has labored faithfully and succeisfully for
the Institution. Called to take charge of the
musical Department in one of our Southern In.
stitutions, the Professor leaves many regrets be
hind him in and out of the Seminary, for he was
loved and 'esteemed by all those able to appreciate
the eminent qualities of heart ,and mind, with
which he was gifted. This "department will be
placed next session, in the hands of able teachers,
under the immediate suphrvision of Mr. Ani•
tunnel.
The matronly attention and affectionate solidi.
bide of the principal, qualify her in every respect
for the responsibilities of her position and can
not fail to secure the attachment of her pupils,
whilst it effects a prompt and cheerful obedience
to her instruction. No young lady ever left the
Olome Institute without exhibiting a proficiency
in her various studies, as flattering to the pre
.
ceptress as it was gratifying to her parents and
the patrons of the Seminary. .

Dr. Me'Lane's Celebrated Vermifage.
. MANUFACTURED BY FLUTING BROD.
NEW Yong, August 26, 1852
This is to certify that I am well acquainted
with a man fifty years of age, for many years a
resident of this city, who has been at times ex
tremely ill, but could not tell from what cause,
unless it was worms. He told Ads attending
physician his suspicions, but the physician at
once ridiculed the idea, and refused to attend
him any longer. His son then mentioned Dr.
M'Lane's Vermifuge, and asked him if he would
take it
,; bis'reply was—l must takeimmething to
get relief, or die.
They at once procured a bottle of. Dr. 11PLane's
Celebrated Vermifuge, and he, took one-half at
one dose. The result was, he passed upwards of
three quarts of worms, cut up in every form. He
,got well immediately, and is now enjoying most
excellent health ; and, like the good Samaritan
of old, is endeavoring to, relieve his unfortunate
neighbors. He makes it his business to hunt up
and select all oases similar to his own, that may
be given over by regular physicians, and induces
them to try Dr. M'Lane's yermlfuge. So far, he
has induced more than twenty persons to take the
Vermifuge, 'and in every case with the most happy
results. He is well satisfied that Dr. M'Lane's
Vertnifuge, prepared by Fleming Bros. of Pitts
burgh, is far superior to any other known remedy, _
and that if more generally known would not fail
to save many valuable lives. For , further partic
ulars, inquire of Mrs. Hardie, No. 124} Cannon
