Petroleum.
Petroleum, or rook oil, has been long known to

access has been found to a fountain of
itiply, which promises a bilge abnndance. A
orrespondent - of the Pittsburgh Gazelle, under

The whole valley of Oil Creek, prom Titusville.
trawford County, to ice Junction with the Alla

herever you dig on the margin of the creek yuu

'he sutfaoe of the ground in , many places is
• Orally covered with oil. The atmospbere Is
'anted with it, and oil rises to the aortae° of the
reek in some places in sufficient quantities to
field five or Blx gallons per dry. The most
oplous supply of oil, however, is derived from a
pring situate on the land of Messrs. Brewer &

he quantity now raised amounts to forty five or
fty barrels per twenty four hours. The oil is
inch th aker than the Tarentum oil, and is said
be very superior for its illuminating and

The Board of Directors of the Theological
Seminary of the North•tirest, stands adjourned to
meet in the North church, Memo, Tuesday, Oo•
tober 25th, at 7 o'olOck P. Pd.
In addition to much other important business
to come before the Board, the inauguration of
the four Professors is appointed to take plane du•
ring that meeti ig. The Rev. J iI Brawn. D.D.,
is to preach the sermon, the Rev. C /Well being
his alternate; the President of the Board, the
Rev 8. T. Wilson, to receive the pledge of the
Professors, and give the charge, the Rev. Henry
Neill being his alternate; and afterwards each
Professor to deliver an inaugural address.
These services will doubtless occupy portions of
two days ; intervals being spent by the Board in
other business.
It is confidently hoped, not only that there will
be a full attendance of members of the Board, bat
that many other friends of the Seminary will make
it convenient to be present, and witness exercises
of such rare interest. To induce the members o
the Board to attend, especially this meeting, they
should bear in mind, that besides many other,
and very important trusts, the General Assembly
has committed to them the grave responsibility of
selecting a site for the Seminary buildings, and
that this selection will probably have to be made
during their approaching ses s i on .

with the utmost patience and resignation. She had Within
a few years seen her father, mother, two of her three
sisters, her husband, and lastly, her only child, taken from
her by the band of death- still she would freciaerrtly say,
amid the tears which affection demanded, that they were
"not lost but gone before." The writer, within a little
over a year, saw her three different times brought near the
gates of death, on beds of sickness, and although he visited
her frequently, never heard her express (wish but one

perfect confidence in a glorious immortality beyond the
grave. The exception referred to was a temporary doubt,
which soon gave place to her usual full confidence in her
