Torus are now between twenty and thirty dif
ferent patents for :Sewing Machines, all clam
crone for popularity and p atronage , . but all using
them agree in one point, rm. that every machine
yet made has some glaring defect. These defects
being well exposed by the rival agents, it was
not diffioult for the maker of the "Finkle Ma
chine" (one recently introduced,) to profit by the
mistakes of others, and give the public a simple,
strong and effective article. This machine is an
admitted improvement, adapted to a wider range
of work than any other now made, being used
for cloth, leather, and the lightest fabrics. J. L.
Carnaghan & Co., Allegheny City, have entire
control of it for Ibis seotion.
Many who 'lttt;re attempted to economise by
buying•an inferior article of merchandise. find
themselves penny wise and pound foolish. In no
thing, perhaps, is this more evident than in the
article of clothing. The firm of J. L. Carnsghan
Co , Federal Street, Allegheny City, have been
quite suooessfot in the introduction of First-Class
Clothing for Men and Boys, and those who are
tired of poorly made garments my find it to
their interest to try a well cut, well made, and
truly tasteful article, such as is sold by this firm.

Another Cale of Fever and Ague Cured
A few days ago we recorded an astonishing
aura of Fever and Ague by the use of Dr. M'-
Lane's. Liver Pills, prepared by 'Fleming Bros.,
Pittsburgh, Pa. We baire now another to men
tion, viz. that of Mr. James Sharpe, of Mad-
Isonbirgh, who states that he bad labored under
a very severe attack of Ague and Fever, and was
soon restored by the use of these Pills. Mr.
Sharpe also expresses an opinion, founded on ob
servation, that the Liver Pills are the best for
bilious complaints ever 'offered in bill Section of
country.
Although long knowi as a sovereign remedy for
chronic comes of Hepatic derangement, or dis
eases of the Liver, the proprietors, Fleming
Bros., 'of Dr. M'Lane's Pills, were not prepared
for the frequent, but gratifying evidences of its
general utility and curative capacity. In this
respect, this invaluable medicine has exceeded
their most sanguine expectations, and induced
them to hope that it will be , introduced into every
family in the United States.
Purchasers will be careful to ask for DR. M'-

Dun—At Johnstown Cambria County, Pa., March fitli,
Mrs. Molimn, aged beyears.
This aged mother united with the Presbyterian Church in
very early life, and ,walked humbly and uprightly before
God, giving forth a sweet and happy Christian influence"
wherever she dwelt; and her last days were full of peace.
When it became apparent that God wanted her in the upper
sanctuary, she expressed her entire willingness to go, and
delighted much in the thought that Gad was with her. She
calmly bid a lest farewell to her friends, and joyfully fell
mleep in Jesus.

of 'typhoid 'fever, Wruxus, on of ;Oahe& Amos, in the 24th
year of hie age.
The deceased was for three years past a member of the
Presbyterian church of Beallsville. During that time, and
long previous, he had endeared ..himself to all who knew
him, by the amiability of his disposition, and his fidelity in
every relation be sustained. in his death, this bereaved
family bee lost a eon and brather who was kind, Oho.
'donate, and dutiful, and the Church a bright example of
living piety. He was calm at the approsch of death, assuring
his friends that they need net Borrow for one whose hope is
in Jesus. Though dead, his example still speake to ns. For
a series of years he had found sweet comfort in the exert,
else of serret prayer. His service in the Church Militant
was short, hit the idasterhath called him to higher'service
in the Church triumphant. G. M.
Disn—At Johnstown, Pa., March 27th, Mn.s Hainan J
Rossars, in the 28th year of her age:
Thh young mother went to her home in heaven through
a very severe and protracted illness, but through it all she
gave UP evidence of the *attaining and' comforting power
of the religion of Christ Jesus: She murmured not, but
was patiently and cheerfully submissive to her Father's
will, !Mowing that he does all things wisely righteously,
and tenderly. Her life was in imitation of(that *lend
who has gone before, leaving the message, " Follow me."
Her large circle of friends are therefore encouraged to say.

Dien—On March Bth, 1859, .at the old homestead, in
Clarion County, Pa., now the residence of her eon, Culbert
-11011 OM MII. MAAOARIT OM, widow of the• late Simnel 'O.
Orr, Beg , in the 74th year of her age.
The dammed was born in Westmoreland County, on the
17th of January, 1788 She was married . in 1804, and
,moved euewith her husband to the Omit whein she rased
till her death. .In the Spring of 1855, and the same Sum
mer, she and her hysband connected themselves with the
Presbyterian church of New Rehoboth, then under the
pastoral care `rof Rev. B. hicasnah, and now under the
pastoral care of Rev. J. Montgomery. Her piety was not
obtrusive, nor forward, but retiring and diffident. She
was most exemplary in her own life and conversation, 'and
most successful in training up her children in the way
they should go; and she had more comfort in her family
than falls to the lot of most pions parents. She had the
pleasure of seeing her children, ten in number, Mem
bers of the Presbyterian church, and all married to pious
persons, who are also members of this same Church. Two
of her sone entered the ministry, Rev. Prof. IL W. Orr, de•
ceased, who was one of our drat missionaries to China, and
Bev. Franklin Orr, of the Presbytery of Saltsburg. Three
of her eons, and three of her sone.in-law, are officers in the
Presbyterian Church; and nearly all her granflehildren;'of
suitable age, are members of this Church, and one of them
is in the ministry of this Church. She realised, in her own
experience, the truth of the promise, "Train up a childin
the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not de
part from it." She often expressed to the writer, the great
comfort and satisfaction she bad in the h‘pe of meeting her
whole family in heaven. She expressed to the writer, In
the last interview he had with her, her comfortable hope
that all was well; and her deiire to depart and he with
Christ, which she felt would be far better; but at the same
time mid," All the days of my appointed time will I wait,
All my change Dome." She sweetly fell asleep in Jesus, in
the blessed hope of " the resurrection of life" "Blessed
are the dead which die in the Lord, they rest from their la_
bora, and their works do follow them? J.M.

At the age of seventeen she gave her heart to the Sav

About seven years afterwards, she leftthe Illethodist church,
and of her own accord, joined the Presbyterian church of
Canton, Penn; of which the writer of this sketch was then
rater. By her consistent and exemplary deportment to
the last, she gave abundant evidence 'of the genuineness of
her piety. She was an invalid, most of the time, for the
last sixteen years, and suffered mach. But during her last
illness, which lasted, for some six menthe, her sufferings
were often very severe. And yet Divine grace enabled her
to bear these sore afflictions patiently and_ without mur
muring. Brom the first, she felt seraphis sickness would
be her last, and she talked as calmly of dying as she would
of visiting her. friends. As the Bible bad been for years her
companion and counselor, and the hope of the Gospel her
solace and support in al her afflictions, she faltered not
to enter the'dark valley and shadow of death Her dying
message to an absent brother and sister was, "I die with a
good hope in my Saviour. Tell them to prepare to meet me
in heaven." , She also said, "There is a large family of us,
and what a dreadful thing it Would be if any of us shotild
be lost." P. O.

The subject of this obituary was religiously trained from
his youth. He made a profession of religion in the church
of Ebenezer, in which he subsequently filled the office of
Ruling Elder. He loved the hones of God. He was ap
prized of the truth , of Inspiration where we ore informed
"Blessed is tbe man that heareth me, watching daily at my
gates, waiting at the posts of my doors." He was loved by
all who knew him, and delighted in every good work. The
causeof his death was a stroke which he received when
feeding h threshing machine. The cylinder bursted, and
part of it struck him, and cut a hole in his Windpipe. We
lived about four weeks after receiving this fatal injury, du
ring which time he suffered greatly, with patience and
great resignation to the will of God. When drawing near
to death, he exhorted those around to seek preparation for
eternity. He longed "to depart and be with Christ, which

Their loss, donbtlees, is his unspeakable gain. T.Y.M.
