Nave YORK, March T.—The steam propellor *Tura
arrived this morning, bringing London and Liver
pool dates to the 18th inst. Parliamentary proceed
ings had been uninteresting. The war question was
unchanged, and preparations continued. There are
vague and unconfirmed reports of a French loan of
twenty million pounds sterling. Later intelligence
from India had be * en received, bringing news of the
close of the campaign in Oude, and the destruction
of all the forts.
London dispatohes of Friday .state that Austria
agrees to send a representative to the Paris Congress
provided that England and Russia will guarantee
that the Italian question shall not be discussed.
Faartou.—The article for which La Presse receiv
ed a warning, is precisely of the same umor-as those
which it had been publishing for ...weeks previous,
and the general supposition was that the measure
was taken on the representations of the Austrian
Ambassador.
The Paris correspondent of.the Lendonjimes 'as
serts on trustworthy grounds that the King of Sar
dinia is determined on making an attempt to drive
out the Austrians, with the objeot of constituting for
himself a kingdom strong enough to resist AuStria on
the one hand, and France on the other, if - need be,
and that it will compose Venice, and at least twelve
million subjects. An absolute certainty is felt a,t the
court of Turin, that France will help Piedmont
against Austria, and that Prussia will be With him
passively if Austria be left to fight alone, but actual
ly and speedily if any other power assists Aus
tria. England and Prussia are expected to be
neutral. The above is asserted to be the deliberate
plan of the King of Sardinia and his cabinet, and
nothing but the withdrawal of France will divert
them from it.
Teaser.—The news from the Danubian principal
ities is considered of a serious character, and it is
feared that complications may arise in that,quarter
which may be more difficult to deal with than the
affairs 6f Italy.
The latest continental rumors are more warlike.
It Is said that the French Emperor will soon form a
camp of 100,000 troops at Toulon. It is asserted
that his intentions are deoldedly warlike.
The correspondence from France and Vienna to the
London papers, abound in rumors of warlike pre
parations. On the other band the English army
estimates show a reduction in the home and colonial
forces of 7,500 men and an increase in the Indian
army of 14,000. The total force is 229,000 men,
of
whom 106,000 are for India. The reduction in the
home forces is considered as indicationa of the gov
ernment's faith of the maintenance of peace.

This announcement has carried grief to a large
circle of relatives , and Christian friends. During •
the ministry of her husband, so greatly beloved,
so indefatigable in works of faith and labors of
love, and so successful in winning souls
to Christ,
she was his untiring and efficient helper in every
effort for the good of man and the glory of God.
Many.were the words of comfort she -spake to
the troubled ; many poor will long remember her
unostentatious charities; and many grateful min
isters will not forget her bountiful and generous
Christian hospitality toward them, when wearied
with labor or exhausted from travel. After the
death of him to whom she was so devotedly at;
tached, she returned. with . a sad heart to the
parental home and the church where she had
first learned to know and love the Lord. And
those who knew her best, well know with what
diligence she kept her own- heart`; how earnestly
she sought to bring up her children in the nur
ture and admonition of the Lord ; how _devout
were her prayers for them, for all her relatives,
and for the success and prosperity of the church;
how assiduous she was in doing good to all with
whom she came in contact; and at the same time
I how humble, retiring, and distrestful of 'her
self. But just when she had entered• the new
i dwelling where long years of happiness and use
fulness were anticipated, the hand of &seise was
laid upon her, and she sank under it. Though
the messenger came suddenly, and, as was sup
posed by those who would fondly have detained
her, before her work was done, she was not found
unprepared. Her bone had -been set in order,
and;with calm and holy confidence she laid- her
head on her Saviour's bosom and breathed , out
her life, while in the exercise of strong faith she
committed her children, not only to the kind
hands and loving hearts of earthly friends, but
especially to that faithful and covenant-keeping
God in whom she had so long treated, and of
whose grace she had so plentifully received.

The deceased was born at Canonsburg, Pa,

favor, known in that community. She was,
early in life, received to the full communion of
the Presbyterian church of Chartiers, then under
the pastoral charge of the late Dr. John Mc-
Millan, and by that eminent man she was greatly
esteemed, especially for her decided, active piety
—a, piety, for her age
.and delicate health,
strongly marked. In October, 1831, she was
married to the then pastor of the church of which
she was a member. Her constitution was never
vigorous, and especially from the titne of her
marriage, her health was frequently-interrupted.
Ardently devoted to her children and family, to
promote their comfort, she often, particularly in
the latter years 'of her life, toiled beyond her
strength.
Within the period of her last illness, in addi
tion to her bodily sufferings, Mrs. Leake had her
seasons of spiritual gloom. God hid his face,
and she was troubled.. But her hope prevailed,
and at times was jvons. With deep emotion,
and with emphatic utterance, she often said that
the Saviour was precious to her soul; to her the
chief among ten thousand, and altogether lovely ;
that in him there was all that she needed, all that
she desired. In reply to the question, What
would you now do, without the hopes and conso
lations of the Gospel, to sustain and edlace you?
she said, with marked significance, Sure enough,
what would Ido 1 And, when not interrogated,
she'again and again distinctly and audibly ex
claimed, Precious Jesus l blessed Redeemer ! oh,
prepare me for death and heaven, and take me to
thyself I And although in her last momenta she
did not enjoy the unclouded sunshine of God's
favor beaming on her soul in• that measure and
fullness for which she herself, and her Christian
friends at her beside and elsewhere, had so
earnestly prayed, yet we have full confidence that
these seasons of her darkest forebodings were
only the partial withdrawments of the smiles of
her covenant God. And that these seasons--that
all her personal and family afflictions, so long
continued and so diversified—that all her bodily
and mental distress, only formed that course of
discipline, severe indeed, but salutary, which her
heavenly Father bad appointed in his wisdom and
love, to wean her from the world, to try her
faith and patience, to complete her sanctification,
and to render her meet for heaven. .
