The track is in excellent condition, and everything is in apple-pie order. --We learn from the Index that at a meet of the President and Directors of the Wells hero di State Line Railroad, held at .West field last Wednesday, a committee was ab pointed to canvass for subscriptions to the stock of the company. The canvass will be Commenced at once, and it is hoped soon to be able to report that the required funds 'are secured to warrant a commencement of work upon the road. —Our readers will hardly need two invi tations to read the announcement in our. ad vertising colunins relative to the opera olio performed at the Academy of Music in this village next Friday evening. We aro inform ed that, as•rendered by Prof. Jewett's.grad tinting class, "The Doctor of Alcantara" is not only a rich musical treat, but a brilliant spectacular piece as well.: We trust "The Doctor's" benefit in this' place will be a bumper. —Speaking of the importance of manufac toriei to 4 town an exchange remarks: "One manufactory employing a . hundred men will support an additional population bf five hun dred people. These hundred families will disburse annually on an average the : sum of $750 for each fatally, or $76,000 on an aggre gate. This money will be drawn into the tptvn from the outside where the manufact 'tired products are consumed. The interest of .$75,000,wi1l be $7,500 at ten percent." The moral of this little story is obvious. —The Corning Democrat says that by put ting a few drops of oil of vitriol into a small vial of soft water a perfeqtly invisible ink is made, which is recommepded for use on postal cards. A quill pen must be used in wrttilig, and on the receipt •of the card it must he held near the fire, when the heat will soon turn the sttseen mars as black as the ace of spades—which, by the way, is gen erally blue. But if you have any secret mes sage to send by mail, it will be less trouble some-end more sensible to use fine/envelope and k three cent-stamp. —ln another column will be found the ad vertisement of the new firm of Taylor 4&:: Spalding— The junior member of the con cern comes from Cortland, N.Y.', and the Democrat of that village speaks of him as follows: "AI. G. Spalding, Esq., who" has been for some years past with W. G. Brad ford, our popular druggist, has, in connec tion with other parties, bought a , drug store in Wellsboro, Pa., where he has gone to reside. 'Doe.' is by no meao a giant in stature, but be understand I his business thoroughly, and is a gentleman in every sense of the word. We congratulate the peo ple of Wellsboro upon this accession to their business interests." —During the past week we have paid the postage from the first of July to the first of January 'ne - xt on all subscriptions within the county which are paid up to the latter date, and have sent a receipt for the tiamelo each respective subscriber. The hatch was quite a largeone ; but wet ill gladly add to itat once on the same terms. Read the notice under the editorial head and you will .understand the whole matter. It is probable that the I ) aw requiring the payment of postage; within he county will be repealed by next January ; ut if it is not, we will at _that' time again prepay the poStage on each adVance sub scription. Under this arrangement no sub scriber to the AGITATOR need pay a cent of postage on his county paper. —A printer is the best judge of good print ing, and here is what the Democrat ,Bays of some jobs recently turned out by ono of the AGITATOR boy's: t'We have seen some very fine specimens of printing executed by Will Christnot of the AGITATOR office, which for style and design are not inferior to some of the best city establishments. The work turn ed out is creditable to himself as well as to the office whose imprint it bears." Our neighbor is right, and we make our best bow for the compliment. With the finest mate rials, the kind of presses, and workmen who knOw : how to use them, we are daily turning out work of which ive have aright to feel proud. If anybody wants fine printing of any kind, From a book to a ley's visiting card, we should like to have lint look at our specimens. • • A CoanitcrioN.--. 7 -11 seems we were led into a slight error in our recent statement concerning the death of Richard Hinckley. The following letter from the acting Coroner will set the matter right : `To the Raitor of the Agitator. Sin find in your issue of the 17th in stant a statement respecting the death of Richard Hinckley, a brakeman on the Tio ga Railroad, ;who was killed at Morris Run by the curs running off the track. The state inent is made that the cause of the accident was the cars striking a stick of timber. Al low the to correct the error by stating that "I was 'called upon a few minutes after the ac cident, and Went to the scene of the disaster, and immediately cinpanneled a jury_to in vestigate the cause of his death. The Watkins Expres4ssys that a man livir,g two miles east of Tyrone village, has a lamb that beats anything yet heard of in ,this or any other part of the 'country. It was of full size at birth, is about a week old, and at last ac counts was doing well, but has not a parti cle of wool on it—being as bare of any natu ral covering as.an infant child, and nearly the same color. —Dr. Ellis Greene who practiced medicine in Bellefonte and Centre county for over thirty years, recently went to Boston to visit his son. He was taken ill there and died. Ha was highly esteemed as a physician, says the Republican, was the inventor or com-' pounder of the well known chemical and sci entific Dr. Ellis Greene's "lied and Brown Pills" which have been so populai for twen 7 ty-five years as a family medicine. —A valuable matched team of- bay horses belonging to Mr. Geo. Sweeley, of Muncy township, were both strangled to death in one night recently. The owner bad turned {he animal's out in the pasture, having them fastened together by means of a stick, through a hole in each end of whit'► a strap passed 'and encircled the necks of the horses. These straps must have become twisted tight ly during the night. as l id the morning both horses were found dead. The team was val ued at $450. —A hold•and adroit high Way robbery was committed at Lock Haven the. other night. The Republican says that a mochant drum tner from Philadelphia went out . to attend a German ball, andvilien returning was accosted by two men, one of whom claimed that he had been robbed of a watch, and the other assumed to be a policematl. They ac cused the "drummer" wi c a the robbery, and he in conscious innocence submitted to - • an arrest. 'They examined his pockets and took therefrom his watch, money and:other valu ables, and left him. Another gentleman came up at that moment and . consoled hirn on his misfortune, assuring him that it would be all right when he camel before the trate.
