We think his abjection to the Cincinnati plan is sound so far as the question of moisture is concerned, but as a protection against fire the• Western notion would seem 'to be the bept. The danger from that source in most eoitritry dwellings, as every insurance man ylows, - is mainly from the inslde, • from defective chimneys, Stove-pipes, igrc.„and it would seem that the inch - spambetween the filling and the latlr, propoged by our correspondent, would op erate as a most effective Quo tc'eendtiet Arc, • ity!tho event• of its catching on the inside. But, after all,'the danger from fire in any well-cOnstructed detached dwelling is very slight and not to be considered in compari son with damp walls. We have in mind a house in-Ahis village 'Milt, si* lnClm studding filled in with brick, leaving an inch air chamber bet Ween the fill idg and the outside sheathing and 'a similar one between the brick and the lath on the inside. Here is his letter : Yes; we see "ohjection" to Alm proposed mode of construction by the "Cincinnati - builder, which appeared in your issue of the 16th ultimo under the above head, first page. We suggest: 'Upon a good foundation nave a broad sill ; then - the usual frame-work of. posts and studding, being sure to have the studs wide enough to leave a space of_ one inch betwixt the tilling and tha. laths fur the plastered wall. This rair-space gives rooPt for all moisture from without, which would be precipitated into the rooms • if, not taken up by said space before reaching the plastered wall. Studding 2x Zp inches is proper for four inch 111114.
