figs About Dreamsd
_ls it not a curious fact, for example, thi
roma are all the crodions of our ow
minds—that we ourselves originate the forai
:tnd faces that look on us, and *haps tel
iify us—that we 'think the thoughts tha
others seem to speak with their lips—tha
we and no others are the others of the cow
edy that is acted before us, or of the terri
ble tragedy in which we ourselves are the'
only sufferers?
There is another curious thing about our
dreams, and that is the short period of time
in which they occur, This has been often
measured—by noting, lorexample, the hour
or minute when one has fallen asleep,
dreamed a long dream,• and awoke. Many
remarkable instances'of i this have been giv
en. • I shall add to these one from my own
experience. Very late One night, when wea

friend what required to be seat to press

I had been doing. Recovering myself, I
began to apologize to my friend for having
so long detained him at that hour of night,
expressing the hope that ho had been able
to employ himself profitably in preparing
his college exercises, when, at last, ;timing

that I was aroused by his repeating the last
word of Op sentence, so that could not
possibly have slept above three or four sec.
orals! And thus along dream, which seems
to occupy a night, is often found to have oc

'There:ls one experierice which we have
acquired, I believe, from put' Areal/A l as

suffering through fear. Who was ever smit
