I de• sire to say something aboUt the cure ease end ,the i ,vreservation.of health, which' think will be interesting and profitable to _ many of your readers: First, suffer a-littlesq_my-rterponal.,history by INjay of intioiltittlOrrto the sUbje`er: Four years ago I left Wellsboro, to'eugage in the firactice of the law in the far west_— I located at Omaha, NOraska, and soon found myself busily at work: For years befoie going west, I had been afflicted with chronic bronchitis : and . indigestion, and 'es the labors of my'prolession increaso, these diseases became 'aggravated, culminating at length in" bronchial asthma, congestion of the liver, congestion of the brain, and, a multitude of minor complaints. This was in Ile summer of 1870. For weeks at a time l l would be prostrated, and would only recover from one attach for a short time, be ; fore I would be re-attacked and again pros trated. I was -soon compelled to give up business and return with my family to my friends and native home. I had hoped by rest from Wetness to get .over my difficul lies,;• and I .did get temporary relief in the winter of 187041 during which time I re turned-to Omaha, and attended toisolne un• finished business, but came east again the folloWing spring .intending to spend some time .in out-door employment and recreation, Jan. 1, 1872 hoping thereby to requit my health and get it finally established before again engaging in business. But in a week or two the asthma came on more severely than ever; my .whole _system was very bilious, and a terrible cough followed.: , Days and nights together I ,ould not lie down to sleep un less under the influence of some Pdwerful opiate or narcotic, and whatever relief 1 gained by such means only seemed to aggra-• vale My sufferings afterwards. Though ~1, nature ly hopeful and perseVering, I became' much liscouraged and almost despairing.— Life corned hardly worth struggling for, against such odds ; and at-times I only car ed to live for the =dependent- -apes:nt s family. I had long. been a believer in 1 ilygleniC Water-cure treatment, and had. both; seen and experienced its -benefits in . acuteidgeases ; 'but'l ktiei'V very little of its virtue in chronic cases. But there seemed uo other resource for me now, and so I came td the Institution .whose name heads this sr ticle•early last summer, determined to make a thot.ough trial for life and health. I will 4empt,to describejny course of -treat inl 'detail, though it was very plain and le. ' Suffice it to say,, that ; for ten kX have ,I had no asthma that has t d me . ' to raise my head from my pillow ; r , slight symptoms of it have made their trance, but have yielded readily to ‘ent, and have now.entirelydisappear- snCtt , n ,went -imps mont caus • twig appe treat ed. I have alSo 'got rid'of .a inultitude cif other ,anradYing dieeitsee, and I now look': forward to a life of health, happiness, and, usefulness with a well grounded hope. Al this has been accomplished by psycho hygi bid means—such as rest, diet, mild wat ter-cure processes, gentle exercises in the ivied, air,i agreeable society, pleasant ,'and recreative amusements,, and an intelligent and abiding faith that the laws of nature when .cheerfully and lovingly obeyed are competent to cure disease as they are to pre ''fi licaltl- , q 'lvo - .used no , drugs nor liteines.whateVer, and have avoided.- the if butter, salt, spices, and:other condi ts," living exclusively upon.plain unsea-: idi food; consisting principally of ttit Id, unleavened bread, fruits and vegete 7 and'never eating more than twice .a Gni EDE use I .-- me , BO boilt 1 tiles!
