THE BURGEN CASR.—ThO court room was
crowded last week Monday by an audience
eager fo hear the testimony on the est-mina
tion'of John Burgen,..charged with the
Murder oi.lewiajuiver. The examination
was before A. S. Brewster, Justice of the
Pewee, of this village. The attorneys for the
Continonwealth wiTe District: Attorney
Strang and J. B. Niles, Esq., while the de
fendant was represented by Mr. N. Ell
iott and Walter Sherwood, Esqs. The tezt
imony given was much the same) as that on
the inque,t, of which we published a full re
port last week. No new points were devel
opeCin.thp-ease, and the defendant did not
enter into his defense to any great extent.
At the close of the examination Mr. Elliott
asked the Justice to commit the defendak
for manslaughter, so that he might be bailed
without further examination by the Court;
but the Justice concluded, as the information
was for Murder, tomuthe a% commitment tier
N'Vedliesday the defendant was bratight
before Judge Williams on habeas corlius, and
it was decided that he should be admitted to
