Few people realize the fact that diseaselies

It is *mating tnat the feeble should totter

Ir danger every day of falling victims. to the
morbid influences by which we are all sur
manned, when a tested and proven vegetable
tonic capable of endowing them with the vig
or they need, is procurable in every city, town
and settlement. It might reasonably be thot'
'that after the twelve: year's experience which
the world has had of HOSTETTER'S BTOSLICR

preventdisease.
The fact is notorious that a dose of poisou
which will scarcelyssffect a vigorous man in

-what is the cause of epidemi l c diseases? Poison
*lithe air At this s eason the atmosphere is

whose nervous systems are relaxed are the
first to succumb to these distempers. Brace
up the physical energies then, with this po
tential vegetable tonic, It is the most por

has ever yielded to patient research and ex
exPeriment. Try it. The blindest disciple of
this old medical dogmas wilt at least admit
that a tonic and "alterative, compounded of
approved herbs, roots, and barks, can do no

a krial of its virtues.

the back, for all strains:or bruises, for a weak

properly appreciated.
DR. I. T. HENDERSON'S LETTER;
Farnville, Louisiana, Marbii 8, 1858
):11t. T. Aucocs,—Sir: I have been suffer-
ing under a severe attack of neuralgic disease
ofimy bowels for years, with hypertrophy of
the heart, and have tried everything known to
thik practice of medicine From the very, best
; but truth prompts me to say that
your plasters have given me more permanent
relief than anything else I have used, and I
believe will p. oduce a perfect cure.
The counter-irritant effect of your plasters
Produced in such a mild and gradual way
they so invigorate the circulation around the
parts to which'they are applied, and exert up
on, all nervous diseases such a great sedative
influence, that I place them confidently at
the head of every plaster now in use.
Yours, very truly,

How thoroughly the detnocrhtic party has
been transformed is Ehown byl, the fact that
Mni James Brooks, member of Congress from
this city, is selected as its repres, entative for
the office of ..peaker of the HoLise. Mr.
Brooks began his political life as a writer
against slavery' having travelled all loser the
South to furnish himself with the materials
for strcingsardevenrioientanti-invenyletters
He was next an extreme whig,'d times of high
political excitement editing the Express,' and
outdoing in the vehemence of his denunciation
of all democratic men and measures• the Tri
bune or the old Courier and Ezaminer, Many '
people must remember his ..fierae and. almost'
insane virtuperations of the radicals, the de
structiYes. the loco-focos, the demagogues,
the ignoramuses, in Short, of the democrats,
who seemed to his fancy the very scum optic
earth. Finally this Same Mr. Brooks devotad
several years of his ilife to an effort to debar
our foreign , born population from the right of
suffrage, and parricparl.`ithat part of it which
had been educateid m the Catholic religion.
His hatred of Catholics and aliens was only
equalled by his detestation of the democracy.
But now Mr. James Brooks is the candidate of
the same socalledidentocracy for the Speaker

Brooks has not changed; save in reference to
Slavery, which . he,now loves as he once dis
liked it, and yet there is a perfect affiliation
