jtkir We have to record this week most
Melancholy casualty, by which one person
lost her life and several. others lyere more or
less seriously injured. As the families Of Mr.
George Skelton and Mr. Daniel Monroe were
proceeding down the mountain to Pine Creek,
to attend a funeral service on SUnday,! some
portion of the wagon gave way, and the horses
becoming unmanageable, plunged down the
mountain at a fearful rate. The, wagon was
overturned and nearly every person of the six
in company was injured. A I remarkably
sprightly little ‘laughter of Mr. I.ouroe , s was
so badly hurt that she died ou Monday. Mrs.
Monroe was 'seriously injured, alSo one of Mr.

We call the attention of all having relationi

of the,. diseases induced by exposures and
privations incident to cam ii llfe. In the lists,

a very large proportion are suffering from de

We call particular attention to the. follow

of one of the nation's heroes, whose life,, to
use his own language, "kas been saved by

MESSRS. Jests .e EvAss.±Well, getitlemen,
your Iloofland German Bitters has saved my
Me. There is no mistake in this.
_lt I is
vouched' for by numbers] of my comrades,
some of whose names are appended, and with
were fully conizant oP all the circumstances
of ray case. I am, and haVe.been for the last
four years, a member of Sherman's celebrated
battery, and under the immediate com
mand of Capt. 11.. B. Ayres. Through the
expo Sure attendant upon my arduoUs duties,
I was attacked in November last with la:lm
ation of the lungs, and was for sefenty-two
days in the hospital. This was followed by
great debility, heightened by an attack of
dysentery. I was then removed from the
White 'louse, and sent to this city ; on board
the. Steamer "State of idaihe," from Which I
landed on the 28th of June. Since thitt time
I I have been about as low as any one could be! and still retain a spark of vitality. For a
week or more I was scarcely able to swalloW
anything. and if I did force a morsel dOwa, it
was immediately thrown up Realm."'
I could nut even keep a glass of water on
iny.stotnach. Life could not last under Such
circumstances; and, accordingly the physi
cians who had been' working faithfully, tho'.
unsuccessfully, to rescue me from the graSp
of the dread Archer, frankly told ime they
could.do no more forme, and advised me to
see a clergyman, and to Make such disposi
tion of my limited funds as best suited me
An acquaintance who visited me at the hos; 7
pital, Kr. Frederick Steinbron, of Sixth belOW
Arch Street, advised me, as a forlorn hope
to try your Bitters, and kindly procured -a
bottle. From the time I commenced taking
them the gloomy shadow of death, receded,
and lam now, thank God fdr getting bet
ter. Though I have taken but two bottles, I
have gained , ten pounds, and I feel sanguine
of being permitted to rejoin my wife and
daughter, from whom I have heard nothing
for eighteen months ; for, gentlemen, I am a
loyal Virginian, from the vicinity of . boat
Royal. To your invaluable 'Bitters I owe the
certainty of life which has taken the place:of
vague fears—to your Bitters will I owe the
glorious privilege of again clasping to my
bosom those who are' dearest to nie in life.]
