Events of the War ; the intrigues of the South
ern leaders at home and abroad; the gradual

of our Army and Navy. -
Every facility at the command of the Pub
lishers has been employed in the preparation

in common with other journals, from the vol

of its patrons to serve in the War for the
Union, its circulation on the 6th of December,

Prominently a journal of News and Literature,
The Tribune has political convictions' which
are well characterized by the single word Rs
, PUBLICAN. It is Repnblican In its hearty ad
hesion to the great truth that "God has made
of one blood all nations of men"—Republican
in its assertion of the equal and inalienable
rights of aßmen to "life, liberty' and the pur
suit of happiness"—Repnblican in its stead
fast, earnest, defiant hostility to every scheme
and effort of the slave power, - from the Annex
ation of Texas to the great Rebellion,to grasp
the Empire of the New World and wield the
resouices of our country for its aggrandize
ment—Republican in its antagonism to the
aristocrats and despots of the Old World, who
fondly bail in the perils and calamities thrust
upon us by- their American counterpart the
overthrow and ruin of the Model Republit
Republican in its hope and 'ttrist, its faith ,rid
effort, that this atrocious Rebellion rand re
suit in the signal overthrow of its plotters, and
the firm estoblishment' of equal rights and
equal laws throughout the whole extent of our
country, wherein Liberty and Union shall
indeed "be one and inseparable" henceforth
and forever.
TEE TRIBUNE devotes attention in calmer
times, and to some extrnt in these, to Educa
tion; 'Temperance, Agriculture, Inventions,
and whatever else may minister to the spiri
tillii and material progress and well-being of
mankind; butfor the present its energies and
its columns are mainly devoted to the invigor
ation and success of the War for the Union.
Its special ebrrespondents accompany every
considerable army and report every important
incident of that great struggle which we trust
is soon to result in the signal and conclusive
triumph of the National arms and in the res
toration of Peace and Thrift to our distracted
and bleeding country. We believe that no
otherwise can a fuller:or more accurate view
of the progress and character of , this momen
tous conflict be obtained , than through the
regular perusal of our columns. Ahd we ear
nestly solicit the-ea-operation of alt feloAda of
the National cause, which we regard and up
hold as that of Universal Humanity, to aid
in extending its circulation.
