Ma. EDITOR —The loyal citizens of

The condition of. the Potomac mivlr
chiefly occupies_ the minds ,of people at
Washington. It appears , that though
there are upou 'the banks , many guns,
they cannot easily reach the ships as,they
pass; consequently the risk of the pas
sage is very small Reconnolianees show
that at Lee:.harg the Rebel force is not
large, and that ,the enemy is evacuating
the place as rapidly as possible; the satin
is true of Fairfax' Couit HOlise. Beau
regard is said to have withdrawn to Ma
nassas, leaving a str9az guard at Centre
ville, and it is believed by sane that at
the latter place a fight may be'made l when
our army advanoes. _
It is reportedi from Missouri, that Gen:
Wyman, with 2;500 men, his arrived - at
Lynn Creek,
,where he dispersed a body
of rebels, killing a large nuMber, taking
more than 200 prisoners, and Captnring
a great quantity of property which the
enemy had stolen. Gen. Fremont, on
Friday night;''Was still at Warsaw;' the
pontoon bridge, constructed by .him - over
the Osage river, was to he finished on
Saturday ; Sictiet's division bad crossed
the river. It was reperted that Ben Mc-
Culloch had reonforced Pride at Osceola,
and that this combined alley had ford
tied_that town and there waited to give
battle to Gen. Freinont„ , Another dis
patch says that it is Caithage where
Price means to make a shed. Still an
other report concerning Rebel affairs in
"Mi&onri states , that Geo. Johnston has
been placed in command ofall the Rebels
in that State - but it is not ,intiwatod
whether_ 6e supersedes Price or not All
the, reports - froth .that section Imply clear

on each side, must soon be; fought these.
