:Messrs. Fearon Brothers, of Lock Haven,
have put in about 150,000 feet of cherry

The Atlantic Muudily fur February is
upon us hi all its glory, having many
good articles and a few indifferent ones.
Miss Martineau pays a just memorial to
Lady Byron, and one who no doubt knows
that which he writes of shows up the
,Dry Gobds Jobbing business of 1861 in
its true colors. lie tells much that few
know outside of New York or Philadel
phia, and giveS us an insight into the
business. The 'Professor" continues
his story, and Miss Prescott tells a short
one. Whittier and Lowell are the only
poets, and are a little Short of their-usu
al excellence. r We furnish the litlant:c
fur $2.

LOCAL LEGISLATION.—At the session
of the Legislature of this State, the fl
lowing act was passed which the public
should take 'notice of :—" That flow and
aftdr the .passage of this act, it shr.ll be
required. that every application of the
Le: , fsfaetire, for any act of incorporation,
shall be,; preceded by a public notice or
advertisement of the scum in two news

legislation is demanded, if two newspapers
are 'published therein, which said public
notice, or advertisment shall set forth t ne

raters of the bill for proposed legislation,
and its title, at.d the same bill shall be

before the bills or proposed law shall he
presented to either branch of the Legis

A RICIIIT STEP.—The Governor cf
North Carolina appears to have more
sense than all the re.st of. the southern
Governors. He has peremptorily ordered
the state troops to. evacuate the forts of
which they had taken unlawful posses:lion.
" He is determined," it is said, '. to allow
no' overt act of treason to be committed
,within his •urisdiction." . The other
Governors s '. j
uld follow his example.- :
'Thel seizure of the federal property. was a
'wanton outrage, which nothing in the
coalition of the southern slates will pis
:tify and which the federal government is
hound to resent. If an armed collision
laetireen federal and state authorities is to
e .voided, the property that. lies been
appropriated must be Surrendered.
