Ma: - CNAss.—Dear Sir: I notice by reading
:the ..ToOnNAL that you were misinformed as to
the. fact !it xegafil to the melancholy accident
which incurred here, and resulted in the death
.of a respectable, citizen. The'circumstances
were simply these: Mr. lionslei was returning
from a hunting excursion and stopped at Mr.
Pike's. At the time of. the .accident he was
standing on the porch with the butt of his gun
estinx qp the dpialreia Irishman iu
:attempting to pas !Jut lost his : i3alance and
fell, striking his hand against tae hemmer. of
.the leek,. drawing It backufficiently to die
charge- tbe 'the ball' fracturing 'the - slrull,
as described. Mr. lousier was not drunk at
thd time, and the consequences of ihimadac- .
-eident can in no way be attributed to his in
toxication. Ido not know who your inform
ant was, but justice to the friends of the un
fortunate mat. and to his bereaved wife (who
is all excellence) demandsthat the error should
be ecnrreeted. Yours; '&e: J. 31. S.

Meeting of the Ulysses Itepubil-
can Club.
ULYSSES, Jan. 7th 1860
"Nit: EDI9L—Our Republican Club
held its first regular monthly meeting on
the, evening or the sth inst., in the Acad
emy, with the expectation of hearing a
speech-from Mr. Olmsted or Mr. Mann;
but were fur some ( - probably-good) reason
disappointed. After waitinga reasonable
time, the President stated that we had
not called the meeting under a false pre
tense, but had good reason for expecting
a speaker; and as the audience, to the
number of 200, had come expecting a
speech, he called.on Mr. Seth_Le.vis, who
reiponded by - reading from the Senvi-
Weekly Tribune an article on "Helper's
Impending Crisis," and by . a speech which,
for clearness, would not suffer by compar
ison with any published speech that I
have read" since the organization of the
present Republican party.., The Presi
dent also said he understood that there
had:been some:music prepared for the oc
casion, and which he called for. Some
of-the students of the Academy, under
the leadership of Mr. Seth Lewis, execut
ed "The Great F. F's. of Old Virginia,"
with=two verses added in relation to the
John Brown-affair, which was very apt—
one him of which alluded to " 200 men
keeping lI men at bay."-`The President
being called-fer made, ashort !speech stat
ing that we were called agitators, and
showing from history that we were not
guilty of starting the agitation. That it
grew out of the removal of the Missouri
compromise line, the fugitive slave law,
And a few other late acts of the party in
power. It is understood that the rega-
Jar meetings of the Club are to be at Lew
tsViili and special' meetings, if any, in
other parts of the town. ONE OF Trii.
