He died at theHermitage, near Nash
ville, on Sunday evening, the 8th’
instant, at 6 P. M., in the 79th year
of his age.
This remarkable man, go ardent
and honorable in private life; so
strong and irresistible m battle ; so
wise in council; and so inflexible in
government ; who, for the last quar-
ter of a century,filled the world with
his undying rénown, has put on the
robes of imperishable honor and im-
mortality. His dream of life is over;
and in peace he rests in the cham-
bers of Silence, where death’s bat-
tallions wheel no more and war's
wild music never rings.
General Jackson was born on the
15th of March, 1767, in the Waxhaw
settlement, South Carolina.
