Notwithstanding the . prejudices against
these Saddles heretofore, he feels justifiable
in saying, that he hopes to gain the confi
dence and patronage of the public—as he is
enabled, on the present principle, to ensure
all his saddles without any extra charge.—
That a soft, easy saddle is desirable to all
persons who ride much, and particularly to
those who may not be favored with a very
pleasant horse; I presume ail persons Will
unhesitatingly patroniie the spring saddles,
when they will be ensured as long as the
purchaser may deem necessary.
The elasticity of the Saddle acting in Ear
mony with the
,symetry of the horse and
rider, not only affords ease to the man, but
incalculable advantage to the, horse.. All,
persons of judgment and experience must
know, that a dead, unelastic weight on a i

Girth affords the following advantages: Ist
Moving. or yielding with the horse's chest in
breathing, no cramps or cholics or any dis
easecan rise therefrom:, 2d.'rlie girth will
outlast two or three of the common kind,
because the yielding of the spring on the sud
den expansion attic chest prevents the girth
from breaking, and saves the rider from fall
ing; many falls have been the fruits of break
ing girths.

s i. 4;-77E congratulate both our readers end nor
, i,,tpd/ selves at the excellent auspices under
which wo shall commence the next volume of the.
New York Mirror. -'rho times indeed, ere
gloomy: but, widely as our commercial distress is
extended, the Mirror has• shot the roots which
nourish it still wider, and the elements of its pros
perity being now derived from every section of
our extended country, it shares in the good for
tune of those most remote, while sympathizing
with the troubles of those which are near. It is
owing to this general circulation that we aro en
abled in times like those not merely to sustain the
wonted style of our publication, but to present
new claims upon that patriotick regard which
has never been withheld from our untiring exer
tions to make the NOW York Mirror Tun FIRST
PUBLICATION OF THE KIN 0' IN THE WORLD. Nor do
we fear to be thought presuming in Moline at so
high a mark. Let those who would carp at the
expression but look back to the commencement
of our undertaking; to the first. of tho fourteen
volumes, which, year rifler year have boon produced
with an increase of toil and expense that has ever
kept in edvanco . of the support we have received,
liberal • undoubtedly as that support has been.
Lot them then weigh dm improvements upon its
predecessor in each successive Tribune, and we
tearlessly assert that they cannot withhold their
approval from our past labours, nor deny the rich
promise with which our publication is still rife.
TIM' LITERARY 'ARRANGEMENT for the coming
year. must secure a great improvement in this de
partment of the Mirror, for while our journal will
continue to be mainly supported' by Mr. Mo •
Mr. WILLIS, and Mr. Fay, new engagements hay,
been made with Captain MsCitrikvr. and several
oilier writers of established reputation, on both
sides of the Atlantick, to give us the aid of their
talents; and enrol themselves with those who, like
Mr. Cox, have become almost identified with our
columns. Those increased resources must nacos.
sadly give a greater diversity to the paper; while,
in order to promote that unity of purpose which is
so desirable in such a journal, and w!..ich can on
ly be seeured by its having one acting head, the
Mirror has now been placed under the immediate
editorial charge of a single person; and the pro.
priotor is happy to announce that he has made a
permanent arrangement w ith Mr.C. F. HOFFMAN,
Who has for the last two months had charge of
this department.,
Tim STEAL ENGRAVINGS now in the coarse of
preparation for the coming year are such as we
shall be proud to lay before our countrymen.
They commemorate the romantick scenery and
the illustrious characters of our hind. The Land.

pear among the historical landscapes; and our
series of Portraits, which began with HALtiECE,
will be followed up by those of Balmer, Sramennt;
Coerce, TRYING, and YErter.Aiscx,, making, when
finished, a most valuable pert:nut gallery of A
mericans of literary celebrity, while they illus
trate the genius of Stewart, lemon, Weir, and
other native artists, of whom - our country is just
ly
_proud.
Tux WOOD ENGRAVINGS, to which WO have
ever paid greet attention, as the branch of art to
which they belong is one which our countrymen
are rapidly carrying to a hi , 2 h degree ot perfec
tion, will assume new importance in this volume,
as all will acknowledge who behold the superb
specimen of Chapman's genius and Adams's skill
in an early number: ,
TFIE MUSICAL DErsn'rnssit for the coming year
will be enriched with many original contributions
by Hoary and Russar.L. alternated with choice
morcoaux from rare European collections, and
occasional selections flout now and popular com
positions, imported expressly for the Mirror, and
newly arranged in this country. The pieces thus
given with every number of the Mirror, although
they do not occupy one-sixteenth of the work,
could not be purchased in any other shade exce2t
at a cost far greater than that of our whole annual
subscription!
We have thins, as is our usual wont, glanced at
the plan of the Mirror—a plan which embraces
eo many subjects within the range of the BELLES
LETTERS and thn FINE Ants, that it would bo tedi
ous to enumerate them here; and wo would rather
appeal to the testimonials of approval which our
Journal bus received from the discriminating and
the tastefuh.on both sides of the Atlantick, than
add anything hero in furtherance of the cinim
which the NEW-YORK Minium has upon the sup

We nro not in the habit °Compressing nn opin•
ion of the efficacy of Patent Medicines, but in the
case of the above mentioned remedy for Mumma
town, wo feel called on, by peinciplos of humanity,
to slate that. it has had the most surprising of.
feels. The inventor is a gentleman in whom the
greatest reliance can be placed; but he has other
than his own testimony in favor of the medicine
which ho MCorp to the public. Clergymen, phy
sicians, and those who have been trolleyed, have
borne voluntary witness to its astonishing oflica ,
cy; and those who have the misfortune to be dill°.
ted with this distressing complaint may bo assur
ed of immediate relief by resorting to this remedy.
The following is from the Fredericktown Der.
old, edited by Wtn. Ogden Niles, Esq. April 611 i,
1833:
Mr. O'Neill's Rheumatic Medicine, offered to
the public in this day's paper, if we form an °pint
inn from the character of the maker, and numer
ous certificates in his possession from highly res
pectable individuals, who have been cured by the
use of it, is one of the most valuable of recent dis.
covory. Its effects upon those afflicted with chro
nic and inflammatory rheumatisin, liave been truly
marvellous; a few bottles enabling them to dis.
ponse with crutches, flannels and bandages, with
which for years they have protected their limbs
and bodies. Mr. O'Neill merits the gratitude of
the afflicted, and the testimony of respectable,
physicians forbids those imputations which are
generally attached to venders of panaceas.

About two years ago I was severely afflicted
with the dyspepsia, which I had for•the last fifteen
years, previous to the above named time, which
was very much increased by my having a blood
vessel ruptured upon my lungs, oceasioned by lift
ing—which increased my • complaint, dyspepsa
and general weakness and debility to such a do
gree, that for two years previous to my using tho
Garlegnnt Balsoin, I- never eat a meal but my
stomach became so painful that I had immediate.
ly to throw it up. Seeing Garlegant's Balsam of
Health advertised, I was 'induced to try a bottle;
after taking tho very first dose it appealed to
strengthen my stomach; and every dose of the
first bottle helped me so much, that in the course
ofa few days my stomach began to retain and diS
gear every thims"
'l oat. I continued to use the
fialeum until 1 used seven bottles, which cured
mo entirely, and restored me to perfect, health,
which I have enjoyed over since, and not before
for fifteen years. I cheerfully, recommend, it to
all persons who are a ffl icted with dyspepsiior de- •
bility of stomach. Given under my hind this 11111
