in disease on any part of it. No organ is free
from its adtacid, nor is there one which it May
not destroy. The scrofulous taint is variously
caused by mercurial disease, low living, dis
ordered or unhealthy food, impure air, filth
and filthy habits, the depressing vices, and,
above all, by the venereal infection. What
ever be its origin, it is hereditary in the con
stitution, desteending "from parents to children
unto the third and fourth generation ;" teed,
it seems to be the rod of Him who says, tsl
will visit the iniquities of the fathers upon
their children."

In April, 18511, a, near 00 1 can rememember
a ,1 , 11111 pimple made its appealatnee on my up
per lip, wide', soon became enlarged end sore. '
I used poultioes nt san d and a wash of blue
without effect. Finding the sore extend
ing I called an Dr. Ely, al Srhellsburg, who
pronounced it CANCER, and prescribed a wash
of sugar of lead and bread poultices. Finding
these remedies of no avail, I called upon Dr.
Shaffer, of Davidsville, Somerset county, who
also pronounce , ' the disease Cancer and goer
me intern.d and external remedies—the latter
consisting principally of caustic; hut all to no
purpose, as the disease continued spreading to
ward the nose. I next used a preparutinn of er- I
Heide, in the torts of salve. This Mr a time
checkei the disease, lut the inflammation soon
increased. I next called upon Dr. Smiler of St.
Bedilird county, alto also pronoun
red the disease to lie Cancer, anti applied a Salve ,
slid to be it never-lidling mini*, but it had no
effect whatever in checking the spread of the
sore. Is December, of the same year, the dis
ease had eaten away a greater part of my upper
lip. and had attacked the nose, when I went to
Cincinnati where I consulted Dr. R. S. Newton I

applied mild zinc ointment, and gave me inter

not rest at night. Late in May I retained to
Cincinnati. and again placed myself under the
charge at' Dr. Newton, witlt whom I remained
until September, during winch time Ito used
every known remedy, and partly succeeded in
checking the disease, but when I returned
home there were still three discharging ulcers
upon my Mee. I continued using Newton's
preparations, and also medicine that I got from
Dr. lily, but the Cancer continued growing un
til it hod eaten off the left side of my nose, the
greater portion el my left cheek, and had attack
ed my left eye, I had given up all ha, o °fev
er being cured, since Dr. Ely said he could only.

March, 1853. I bought a bottle of "Blood Sear
cher," but I must confess I had no faith in it.
I was very weak when I commenced taking it;
but I found that I gained strength day by day.

ken my lace was healed es if by a miracle. 1
used a fourth baffle and I have been healthier
since than I have been for the last savor, years.
Although my thee is sadly disfiguwl. 1 am still
