CONSUMPTION
And all Diseases of the Lungs and Throat,
ARE I'OBITIVEIY
CUBA BLE BY INHALATION.
Which convoys the remedies to the cavities in
the lungs through the air passages, and coming
in direct contact with the disease, neutralizes
the tubercular matter, allays the cough, causes
a free and easy expectoration, heals the lungs,
purifies the blood, imparts renewed vitality to the
nervous system, giving that tone and energy so
indispensable tor the restoration of health. To
he able to state confidently that Consumption is
curable by inhalation. is to me a source of anal
lol pleasure. It is as much under the con
trol of medical treatment as any other formid
able discaso ; ninety out of every hundred ea
ses can be cured in the first stages, and fifty per
cent. in the ...end but its the third stage it is
SILKBONNETS in great jalftycitgA.s.l,
impossible to save more than five per cent., for
the Lungs are so cut up by the disease as to hid
defiance to medical skill. Even, however, in the
last stages. inhalation affords extraordinary re
liefs the suffering attending this fearful scourge
which annually destroys ninety-five thousand
persons in the United States clone ; and a enr
'reef calculation shows that of the present popu
lation of the earth, eighty millions are destined
to fill the Consumptive's graves.
Truly the quiver of death Las no arrow so fa-
tal as Consumption. In all ages it has been the
great enemy of life, for it spares neither ago nor
sex, but sweeps oil alike the brave, the beauti
ful, the graceful find the gifted. By the help o
that Supreme Being from whom cometh ovary
good and perfect gilt, I am enabled to offer to
the afflicted a permanent and speedy cure in
Consumption. The first cause of tubercles is
from impure blood, and the immediate effect pro- I
deceit by their deposition• in the lungs is to pre
vent the free admission of air into the air cells,
which causes ft weakened vitality through the
entire system. Then surely it is more rational
to expect greater good from medicines entering I
the cavities of the lungs than those administered
through the stomach ; the patient will always
find the lungs free and the breathing easy, after 1
Inhaling remedies. Thus, Inhalation is a local
remedy, nevertheless it acts constitutionally and
with more power and certainty than remedies
administered by the stomach. To prove the pow
octal and direct influence et' this mode of admin
istration, chloroform inhaled still entirely de
stroy sensibility in a few minutes, paralyzing
the entire nervous system, so that a limb may be
ampinated without the slightest pain; inhaling
the ordinary burning gas will destroy life in a
fete hours.
The inhalation of ammonia will rouse the sys
tem when fainting or apparently dead. The o
dor of ninny of the medicines is peree ptible in
the skin a few minutes after being inhaled, and
may be immediately detected in the blood. A
convincing proof of the eonstitutional effects of
inhalation, is the fact that sickness is always pro •
doted by breathing foul air—is not this positive
evidence that proper remedies, carefully prepay- I
rut and judiciously administered thro' the longs
should produce the happiest results 7 During
eighteen years' practice, many thousands stiffer.
ing trusts diseases of the lungs and throat, have
been under my care, and I have effeoted many
remarkable cures, even after the sufferers had I
been prononnced in the last etages, which , fully
satisfies me that consum.iftion is no longer a fu
tal disease. My treatment of consumption is
original, and founded on long experience and a j
thoruf4ll investigation. My perfect acquaintance '
':nth the stature of tubercles, &c., enables nit to
distinguish, readily, the various forms of disease
that simul ate consumption, and apply the proper
remedies, rarely being mistakes even inn single
case. This familiarity, its connection with cer
tain pathological and microscopic discoveries en
able. me to relieve the lungs from the effects of
contracted chests, to enlarge the chest, purify
the blood, impart to it renewed vitality, giving ,
energy and tone to the entire system.
Medicines with full directions sent to any part
of the United States and Cambia by patients
communicating their symptoms by letter, But
the cure would be more certain if the patient
should pity me a visit, which would give me an I
opportunity to examine the lungs and enable me
to prescribe with much greater certainty, and .
then the cure could be effected without my see-
Mg the patient again.

When a cure is guaranteed in all stages of
SECRET DISEASES,
Self-Abuse, Nervous Debility, Strictures, Gleets
Grovel, Diabetes, Diseases of the Kidney and
Bladder, Mercurial Rheutnatism, Scrofula,
Nine in the Bones and Ankles, Diseases of the
Lungs, Throat, Nose and Eyes, Ulcers upon
the Body or Limbs, Cancers, Dropsy, Epilep
tic Fits, St. Vita's Dance, and all diseases ari
sing from a derangement of the Sexual Organs.
Such as Nervous Trembling, Loss of Memo
ry, Loss of Power, General Weakness, Dimness !
et Vision, with peculiar spots appearing before
theeves, Loss of Sight, Wakefulness, Dyspeu
sia, Liver Disease, Eruptions upon the Face,
Pain in the back and head, Female irregulari-
ties, and all improper dischargesfrom both sexes.
It matters not from what cause the disease origi
nated, however long standing or obstinate the
case, recovery is certain, and in a shorter time
than a permanent cure can he effected by any
other treatment, even after the disease has baf
fled the skill of eminent physicians and resisted
all their means of cure. The medicines arc
pleasant without odor, causing no sickness and
free from mercury or balsam. During twenty
years of practice, I have rescued from the jaws
of Death many thousands, who, in the lust sta
ges of the above mentioned diseases had been
given up by their physicians to die, which war
rants me in promising to the afflicted, who may
place themselves under my care, n perfect and
most speedy cure. Secret diseases are the
greatest enemies to health), as they ere the fist
cause of Consumption. Scrofula and many oth
er diseases, and should be a terror to the hu
man family. Asa permanent care is scarcely
ever effected, a majority of the cares falling in
to the hands of incompetent persons, who not
only fail to cure the diseases but ruin the con
stitution, filling the system with mercury, which
with the disease, hastens the sufferer into a ra
pid Consumption.
But should the disease and the treatment not
cause death speedily and the victim marries, the
disease is entailed upon the children, who are
born with feeble constitutions, and the current
of life corrupted by a virus which betrays itself
in Scrofula, 'Fetter, Ulcers, Eruptions. and oth
er affections of the skin. Eyes, Throat and
Lungs, entailing upon them n brief existence of
suffering and consigning them to an early
grave.
Sell-abuse is another formidable enemy to
health, for nothing else in the dread catalogue of
human diseases causes so destructive a drain
upon One system, drawing its thousands of vie:
tints through a few years of suffering down to ma
untimely grave. It destroys the Nervous sys
tem, rapidly wastes away the energies of life,
causes mental derangement, prevents the proper
development of the system, disqualifies for mar
riage, society, business, and ail earthly happi
ness, and leaves the sufferer wrecked in body
and mind, predisposed to consumption and
train of evils more to be dreaded than death it
self. With the fullest confidence I assure the
unfortunate victims of Self-Abuse that a speedy
and permanent cure can he effected, and with
the abandonment of ruinous practices my pa
tients can be restored to robust, vigorous health.
The afflicted are cautioned against the use of
Patent Medicines, for there are so many ingeni
ous snares in the colllllll, of the public prints
to catch and rob the unwary sufferers that mil
lions have their constitutions ruined by the vile
compounds of quack doctors, or the equally poi
sonous nestrums vended as "Patent Medicines."
I have carefully analyzed many of the so-called
Patent Medicines and find that nearly all of
them contain Corrosive Sublimate, whiell is one
of the strongest preparations of mercury and a
deadly poison, which instead of curing the dis
ease disables the system for life.
'Three-fourths Of the patent medicines now in
use are put up by unprincipled and ignorant per
sons, who do not understand even the alphabet
of rnateria medics, and are equally as destitute
of any knowledge of the human system, haring
only one object in view, and that to make mon
ey regardless of consequences.

BALTIME LOCK HOSPITAL.
DOCTOR JOHNSTON.
THE founder of this Celebrated Institution,
1 offers the most certain, speedy, and only
effectual remeay in the weds for Gleets, Stric
tures, Seminal Weakness, Pahl in the Loins,
Constitutional Debility, Impotency, Weakness
of the Back and Limbs, Affections of the Kid—
neys, Palpitation of the Heart, Dyspepala, Ner
vous Irritability, Disease of the head, Throat,
Nose or Skin ; and all those serious and nielV
choly disorders arising from the destructive
habits of Youth, which destroys both body and
mind. These secret and solitary practices are
more fatal to their victims than the song of the
Syrens to the mariner Ulysses, blighting their
most brilliant hopes of anticipations, rendering
marriage, &c., impossible.
Young Men,
especially, who have become the victims of Sol
itary Vice, that dreadful and thistructive habit,
-which annually sweeps to an untimely grave
thousands of young teen of the most exulted
talents, and brilliant intelieet, who might oth
erwise have entranced listening senates with
the thunders of eloquence, or waked to ecatacy
the living lyre, may call with all confidence.
Marriage.
Married persons, or young men contempla
ting marriage, being aware of physical weak
ness, organic debility, deformities, &c., should
immediately consult Dr. Johnston.
He who places himself coder the care of Dr.
Johnston may religiously confide in his honor as
a gentleman, and confidently rely upon his skill
as a physician.
Organic Weakness.
immediately cured, and full vigor restored,
This disease is the penalty most frequently
paid by those who have become the victim of
improper indulgencies. Young persons are too
apt to commit excesses from not being aware of
the dreadful consequence that may ensue.—
Now, who that understands the subject will pre
tend to deny that the power of Procreation is
lost sooner by those:falling into improper habit
than by the prudent. Besides being deprived
of the pleasure of healthy offspring, the most se
rious and destructive symptomms to mind .d bo
dy arise. The system becomes deranged, the
physical and mental powers weakened, nervous
debility, dyspepsia, palpitation of the heart, in
digestion, n wasting of the frame, cough symp
toms of Consumption.

A Cure warranted, in Two Days.
NO MERCURY OR NAUSEOUS DRUGS.
Dr. Johnston,
Member of the Royal .College of Surgeons,
London, graduate from one of the most eminent
Colleges of the United States, and the greater
part of whose life has been spent in the first Hos
pitals of London, Paris Philadelphia, and else
where, has effected some of the most astonish
ing cures that were ever known, many troubled
with ringing in the head and ears when asleep,
groat nervousness, being alarmed at sudden
sounds and bashfulness, with frequent blushing
attended sometimes with derangement of mind,
were cured immediately.
Certain Disease.
When the misguided and imprudent votary
of pleasure finds lie has imbibed the seeds of this
painful disease. it to too often happens that an
ill-tinted sense of shame, or dread of discovery,
deters him from applying to those who from ed
ucation and respectability, can alone befriend
him, delaying till the constitutional symptoms
of this horrid disease make their appearance,
, such as ulcerated sore throat. diseased nose,
' nocturnal pains in the bead .d limbs, dimness
of sight, deafness, nodes on the shin bones, and
arms, blotches on the head. Men and extremities,
progressing with frighttul rapidity, till at last
the palate of the mouth or the bones of the nose
dull in, and the victim of this awful disease be
comes a horrid object of commiseration, till
death puts a period to his dreadful sufferings, by
sending him to "that bourne from whence no
traveller returns," 'To such. therefore, Dr.
Johnston pledges himself to t.reserve the most
' inviolable secrecy, and from his extensive . pree.
1 lice in the first Hospitals of Europe and Ameri
ca, he can confidently recommend a safe mut
speedy cure to the unfortunate victim of this hot
rid disease.
It is a melancholy fact that thousands fall vic
tims to this horrid disease owing to the unskil
fulness of ignorant pretenders who by the use of
that deadly poison Mercury, ruin the COM .1-
tution, and either send the unforthnato sutlethr
to an untimely grave, or make the residua of his
life miserable.
Take Particular Notice.
Dr. J.. addresses all those who have injured
themselves by improper indulgenci es.
These are some of the sail and melancholy
afflicts produced by early habits of youth, vie:
Weakness of the Back and Limbs, Pains in the
head, Dimness of Sight, Loss of Muscular , pow
er, Palpitation of the Het. Dyspepsia, Nervous
Irritability, Derangements of the Digestive
Functions, leneral Debility Symptoms of Con
sumption, Sic.
MENTALLY—The fearful effects on the mind
are moth to he dreaded; Loss of memory, Con
fusion oft lens, Depression of Spirit, Evil Fors
badings, Aversion to Society, Self Distrust,
Love of Solitude, Timidity, Ste., are some of the
evils produced.
Thousands of persons of all ages, can now
ledge what is the cause of their declining health.
Losing their vigor, becoming weak, pale and
emaciated, have singular appearance about the
oyes, tough and symtoms of consumption.
Dr. Johnston's Invigorating Reme
dy for Organic Weakness.
By this great and important remedy, weakness
of the organs is speedily cured and full vigor re
stored. Thousands of the most debilitated and
nervous, who had lost all hope, have been im
mediately relieved. All Impediments to Mar
riage, Physical or Mental Disqualification, Nor
vous Irritability, Trernblings and Weakness,
or exhaustion of the most fearful kind, speedily
cured by Doctor Johnston.
Young men,
who have injured themselves by a certain prac
tice indulged in when alone—a habit ftequently
learned from evil companions, or at school—the
erects of which are nightly felt, even when a
sleep, and if not cured renders marriage impos
sible, and destroys both mind and body, should
apply immediately.
What a pity that a young man, the hope alibi
country, and the darling of his parents should be
snatched from all prospects and enjoyments of
life by the consequence ofdeviating from the path
of nature and indulging in a certain secret habit
Such persons before contemplating
Marriage.
should reflect that a sound mind and 7 'ody are
the snout necessary requisites to promote connu
bial happiness. Indeed without these, the jour
ney through life becomes a weary pilgrimage,
the prospect hourly darkens to the view; the
mind becomes shadowed with despair, and filled
with the melancholy reflection that the happiness
of another becomes bliptted with our own.
