One morning last week every newspaper office of Paris was visited by s government messenger, who, in breathless haste, for bade them to print a word of the news which had just arrived from Meaux. The grand vicaire had fled with one of his fair penitents, Mad'lle Vactiperin by name, and, one of the most beautiful girls in the place. What makes the affair so terrible just at this moment is, that this intrigue of the grand vicaire, which forms one of the ac cusation upon which Verger based his proofs of the clergy, breaks out just as Ver ger and his damning proofs were beginning 'to be forgot. The young lady, who has refused the most brilliant offers of marriage, and who is possessed of a large fortune in her own right, has, by the advice of her paramour, who is supposed 13 have been her lover ever since she first attended his confessional, five years ago, only waited un til her coming of age and the transfer of her money from the hands of her relations into her own, to take this extraordinary and de cided step. The grand vicaire is a tall, handsome man, of good family. The fugi tives have landed in England—and rumor declares that the reverend father has writ ten to his bishop, annonnoing hie intention of throwing hisfroe aux °dies, end threat 'Ding, on 'he first sign df persecution or annoyance on the port of the ecclesiastical authorities, to issue a public confirmation of all the "horrible calumnies which were suppressed is Verger's trial. Another Poser for Chief Justice Taney. The presiding Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States Tested his opin ion that negroes were not citizens upon the allegation that they have never been recognized us such by the general govern ment, either before or since the adoption of the federal constitution. His attention is reapect'ully invited to the following ex tract front an act of Congress passed in 1803, which received the approval of Pre sident Jefferson and both houses of Con gress, and has been recognized as constitu tions! fur more than fifty years. This clause, it wid be perceived, specially re cognizes the existence of colored citizens of the United States Art. 1569. No master in any vessel, or other person, shall import, or cause to be imported, arty near, mulatto, or person of color, not a native, a citizen, or registered seaman of the United States, or a seaman native of some country beyond the Cape of Good Hope, into any place of the United States, situated in any State ,‘ hich law has prohibited or shall prohibit, the impor tation of such negro, mulatto, or other per von of color' (Actoi Congresa,2Bth Feb ruary. 1808. Sec. 1, 'l'. F Gordon's Di gest Edition, 1837, page 453.) Can any more conclusive evidence be desired to prove that the general govern ment did recognize the citizenship of ne groes, in certain cases, than this most sot men declaration of the government itself and if not, when and by what act were their rights divested ?—.N. OP ITS INTRINSIC VALUE THE EN LIGHTENED COMMUNITY AND NOT THE DISCOVERER MUST BE THE JUDGE 1 'IRANI' medicines offered for sale are necom , fil ponied by doubtful certificates (their chief value) and claim to be universal remedies, cu. ring all maladies—a burlesque on common sense. As the discoverer of this Salt solemnly protests against having it placed on the eatego• ry of frauds and impositions, he has resolved that it shall go forth to the world like the pure gold dollar, wit no other passport than its own true value. If the public find it genuine they will receive it—if spurious they will reject , and condemn it. Instead of its being a panacea for all ills it has control over but ono lll—has but ono aim and accomplishes bet me thing, to wit; subdues inflammatory diseases—whatever be their form or locality, whether in the head, throat, chest, abdomen, extrenteties or skin. When the discoverer, after a long series of laborious and costly experiments, became fully confirmed in his convietbn that the AutiphlO ' gistie Salt, which he now has the happiness to I present to the Americanpublic, was a PERFECT SUBSTITUTE fpr Bloodletting, Leeches and Blisters, his mind was so agitated that he could not sleep for many nights.' The cause of his agitation was the striking fact that the manner of its op eration, like that of the virus in vactittation, could not be explained upon any known princi ple. How, in what way, it so effectually sub dues Inflammatory diseases and no others, was at first wholly inexplicable; but on further ex• periment it was proved that by its power over the veins, arteries aneklands, it equalizes the' fluids of the body, the want of an equilibrium in which is the sole cause of inflammation. It exerts like the vaccine matter, an extraordina ry •influence over the circulation—resulting in a gradual declide of inflammation as indicated by the pulse which soon resumes its natural state, as the pain .d heat disappear. Such is its potency, that like the virus just mentioned, it requires merely what adheres to the point of . a quill dip; ed a solution of it to affect the• entire system—but must be instantly used to prevent decomposition, and secure its full vit.- tee. Three quills in acute, and two in chronic disease every 24 hours, till the heat and fever have subsided and a perfect cure is effected.— When it takes the place of leeches, stimulating ointments and blisters is local inflammation, as Brain Fever, Croup, Toothache. Pleurisy, &c., its mode of administration is twofold. (See directions for dissolving, Sc.) SfarThe peculiar excellentce of this Salt hi; that without the useless loss of blood and strength, it effectually cures inflammatory dis eases (no others) by producing an equilibrium of all the fluids of the body and a consequent uninterrupted circulation. The following dif ferent forms which the unbalanced fluids as• some and many not here mentioned, that have more or lea. fever and pain, are as perfectly subdued by the Antiphlogistic Salt, as fire is extinguished by water. I-‘-Cases where the unbalanced fluids affect the Head and Throat—to wit: Brain Fever, Headache, Fits, inflamed Eyes, Ears and Nose Canker, Neur algia, Erysipelas, Bronchitis, &c. 2—Cases where the unbalanced fluids affect the Chest and Abdomen—to wit: Pleurisy, Asthma, Inflamed Lungs and Liver, Colic, Heartburn, Cough. This Salt greatly alleviates the inflammatory pa:tia peculiar to married ladies (berme and at the time of confinement) and many Female . PROFESSOR 0. J. WooD— DEAR Srn t—Unsolicited, I send yon this cer tificate. Mee being nearly bald for a long time and having tried all the hair restoratives extant, and having no faith in any, I was induced on hearing of yours to give it a trial. I placed my self in the hands of a barber, and had my head rubbed with a good stiff brush, and the restora tive applied and well rubbed in, till the scalp was aglow. This I repeated every morning, and in three weeks the young hair appeared and grew rapidly from August last till the present time, and is now thick, black and strong—soft and pleasant to the touch ; whereas, heli,re, it was harsh and wiry, what little there was of it. and that little was disappearing very rspi.lly. I still use your restorative about twice a week, and shall soon have a good and perfect crop of hair Now, I had read of these things—and who has not? but have not seen hitherto any case where any person's hair was really benelitted by any or the heir tonic, etc., of the day; and it really gives me plea.ure to record the result of my ex perience. I hove recommended your preparation to others, and already it has a large and general sale throughout the Territory. 'rho people here know its effects, and have confidence in it. The supply yon sent US, as wholesale agents for the Territory, is nearly maim:tell, and daily inqui ries are made for It. Reader, I peddled over a thousand bottles of this in the vicinity of Boston. I knew the effect or it in every case. So sure as water will extinguish fire, so sure will this cure humor.— I never sold a bottle of it but that sold another; after a trial it always speaks for itself. There are two things about this herb that appear to me surprising; first it grows in our pastures in some places quite plentiful and yet its value has never been known until I discovered it in 1840—second that it should cure all kinds of humor. _ In order to give some idea of the sudden rise and great popularity of the discovery. I will state that in April, 1853, I peddled it and sold about six bottles per dal•—in April, 1854, I sold over ono thousand per day of it. Some of the wholesale Druggists who have been in business twenty and thirty years, say that nothing in the annals of patent medicines was ever like it. Several eases of epileptic fits—a disease which was always considered incurable, have been cured by a few bottles, 0. what a mercy if it will prove effectual in all cases of that dreadful malady—there nee but few who have more of it than I have.
