and an amount of original curious, and valuable
personal incident, amcdote and description, sel
dom, if ever, met with in a single work. his
the author's ife-long work, and nothing superior
if equal to it in blended amusement and instruc
tion, has ever been published. Mr. Goodrich is
the author and editor of 170 volumes, of which
seven millions of copies have been sold ! and this
the great work of his life time, embodies the con
densed substance of his ample literary and prac
tical experience: the war with England in 1812-
14, in which Mr. Goodrich was a private soldier;
the Hartford Convention, whose operations took
place under his immediate observation, and with
most of the members of whirl, he was personally
acquainted. Embracing curious and interesting
details respecting old Jellersouian Democracy,
Old Federalism, and Connecticut Blue Lights;
curious and marvellous events convected with
the rise and progress of religious sects in the

Books upon almost every other subject have
been circulated among the people, except those
relating to the very interesting and important
one of Natural Ilistory. The books which have
heretofore been published on title subject, have
been adapted, to mere children, or to those
who made it a thorough studp Bence, very
few of the millions of readers in this country
have, within their reach, anything satisfactory
upon this subject. This indicates a great and
an obvious want, us no subject is more intense
ly interesting, and none more improving, than
that of the living beings that people the globe.
This want we are confident wo sully meet, 'in
the work we here otter to the public.

A HISTORY OF ALL NATIONS.
From the earliest period to the present time,
the history of every nation, ancient and mo
dern, being separately given. By S. G. GOOD.
MOH, author of several works of History, 'Peter
Farley's Tales,' ece.
It is believed that the above work will be ve
ry acceptable to the American public. It is the
result of years of toil and labor, assisted in his
researches by several scholars of known ability,
and has been got up at a great expense by the
proprietors. No pains have been spared in the
execution of the Illustrations and Maps, which
are prepared expressly for this work. Indeed,
all the other historical writing of Mr. Goodrich,
sink into insignificance, when compared to this,
the result of his riper and maturer years. It is
admitted that one hundred dollars could not
purchase the same matter in any other shape ,
and the publishers confidently expect, in consi
deration of the great literary value of the work,
the largo sum expended in preparing it for thd
press, and the exceedingly moderate price at
which it is ofiered, that it will be favorably re
ceived by every lover of good books. Many of
our first scholars, divines and gentlemen, who
have examined the work, have given i'. their an
qualified approbation and commendation, which
it richly deserves.

I never sold a bottle of it but that sold another;
after a trial it always speaks for itself. There
are two things about this herb that appear to
me surprising; first it grows in oar pastures in
some places quite plentiful and yet its value
has never been known until I discovered it in
1846—second thnt it should earn all kinds of
humor.
In order to give some idea of the sudden rise
and great popularity of the discovery. I will
state that in April, 1853, 1 peddled it and sold
about six bottles per day—in April, 1854, 1 sold
over one thousand per day of it.
Some of wholesale Druggists who have
been'in business twenty and thirty years, say
that nothing is the annals of patent medicines
was ever like it. There is a universal praise
of it from all quarters.
In my own practice I always kept it strictly
for humor—but since its introduction as a gen
eral faintly medicine, great and wonderful vir
tues have been found in it that I never suspect
ed.
Several eases of epileptic flue—n disease
which was always considered incurable, have
been cured by n few bottles. 0, what a mercy
if it will prove effectual in all cases of that
dreadthl malady—there aro but few who have
more of it than I have.
I know of several cases of Dropsy, all of
whom aged people cared by it. For the vari
ous diseases of the Liver, Sick Headache, Dys
pepsia, Asthma, Fever and Ague, Pain fa th e
Side, Diseases of the Spine, and particularly
in diseases of the Kidneys, &e., the discovery
has done snore good than any medicine ever
known.
No change of diet ever necessary—eat the
hest you can, get and enough of it.

DOCTOR .TOIINSTON.
rrittE founder of this Celebrated Institution,
1 offers the most certain, speedy, and only
effectual remedy in the wet Id for Gloats, Stric
tures, Seminal Weakness, Pain in the Loins,
Constitutional Debility, Impotency, Weakness
of tho Back and Limbs, Affections of the Kid—
neys, Palpitation of the Heart, Dyspepsia Ner
vous irrital‘ility, Manisa of thu head, Throat,
Nose or Skin ; and all tho,c scrion3 and melan
choly disorders arising from the deqtrnctive
habits of Youth, whirls destroys both body and
mind. These secret and solitary practices are
more fatal to their victims than the song of the
Syrens to the mariner Ulysses, blighting their
most brilliant hopes of anticipations, rendering
marriage, be., impossible.
Voting Men,
especially, who have become the victims of Sol
itary Vice, that dreadful and destructive habit,
which nnnually sweeps to an untimely grave
thousands of young men of the most exalted
talents, and brilliant intellect, who might oth
erwisa have entranced listening senates with
the thunders of eloquence, or waked to century
the living lyre, may call with all confidence.
Marriage.
Married persons, or young men contempla
ting marriage, being aware of physical weak
ness, organic debility, defortnities, &e., should
immediately consult Dr. Johnston.
lie who places himself under the care of Dr.
Johnston may religiously confide in his honor as
a gentleman, and confidently rely upon his skill
as a physician.
Organic Weakness
im
smodiately cored, and full vigor restored,
This disease is the penalty most frequently
id by thole who have become the victim of
improper indulgontics. Yi.ung persons are too
apt to commit excesses from not being aware of
the dreadful consequence that may ensue.—
Now, who that understands the subject will pre
tend to deny that the power of Procreation is
loot sooner by tlsose, fulling into improper habit
then by the pestilent. Besides being deprived
of the pleasure of healthy offspring, the most se
rious and destructive symptoms to mind said ho
dv arise. The system becomes deranged , the
physical end mental powers weakened, nervous
debility, dyspepsia, palpitation of the heart, in
digestion, a wasting of the frame, cough symp
toms of Consumption.

Member of the Royal College of Surgeons,
Lonion, graduate from one of the most eminent
Colleges of the United States, and the greater
part of whose life has been spent in the first Hos
pitals of London, Paris Philadelphia, and else
where, hos effected some of the tnost astonish
ing cures that were ever known, many troubled
with ringing in the head and ears when asleep,
great nervousness, being alarmed at sudden
outwits, and bashfulness, with frequent blushing
attended sometimes with derangement of mind,
ware cured immediately.
A Certain Disease.
When the misguided and imprudent votary
of pleasure finds he has imbibed the seeds of this
painful disease. it to too often happens that no
ill-timed sense of shame, or dread of d iscovery,
deters him from applying to those who i'rem ed
ucation and respectability, can alone befriend
him, delaying till the constitutional sytnptoms
of this horrid disease make their oppenrance,
such us ulcerated sore throat, diseased nose,
nocturnal pains in the head and limbs, dimness
of sight, deafness, nodes on the shin bones, and
arms, blotches on the head, face and extremities,
progressing with frightful rapidity, till at last
the palate of the mouth or the bones of the nose
fall in, and the victim of this awful disease be
comes a horrid object of commiseration, till
death puts a period to Isis dreadful sufferings, by
sending bite to "shot bourne from whence no
traveller returns;' To such, therefore, Dr.
Johnston pledges himself to preserve the•most
inviolable secrecy, anti from his. extensive prac
tice in the first Hospitals of Europa and Ameri
ca, he can confidently recommend a safe and
speedy cure to the unfortunate victim of this Ism
rid disease.
It is a melancholy fact that thousands fall vic
tims to this horrid disease owing to the unskil
fulness of ignorant pretenders who by the use of
Ghat deadly poison Mercury, ruin the cons.i
tution. and either send the unfortunate sufferer
to an untimely grave, or make the residue of his
life miterable.
Take Particular Notice.
Dr. J.. addresses all those who har o injured
themselves by improper indulgencies.
These are some of the sad and melancholy
ellhets produced by early habits of youth, vie :
Weakness of the Buck and Limbs, Pains in the
head, Dimness of Sight, Loss of Muscular pow
er, Palpitation of the Heart Dyspepsia, Nervous
Irritability, Derangements of the Digestive
Functions, leneral Debility Symptoms of

sumption, &a.
AliorrAm.v—The fearful effects on the mind
aro much to be dreaded; Loss of memory, Con
fusion oil leas, Depression of Spirit, Evil For
bodings, Aversion to Society, Self Distrust,
Love of Solitude, Timidity, &c., are some of t h e
evils produced.
Thousands of persons of all ages, can now
edge what is the cause of their declining health.
Losing their vigor, becoming weak, pale and
emaciated, have singular appearance about the
eyes, tough and symtoms of consumption.
Dr. Johnston 9 s Invigorating Dente
dy for Organic 'Weakness.
By this great and important remedy, weakness
of the organs is speedily cured and full vigor re
stored. Thousands of the most debilitated and
nervous, who bud lost all hope, have been im
mediately relieved. All Impediments to Mar
riage, Physical or Mental Disqualification, Ner
vous Irritability, Tremblings nod Weakness,
or exhaustion of the must fearful kind, speedily
cured by Doctor Johnston.
Young Men,
who have injured themselves by a certain prac
tice indulged in whets alone—a habit ftequentiv
learned from evil companions, or at school—die
effects of which are nightly felt, even when a
sleep, and if not cured renders marriage impos
sible, and destroys both mind and body, should
apply immediately.
What a pity that a young mon, the hope of his
country, and the darling of his parents should be
snatched from all prospects and enjoyments of
life by the consequence oldeviat kip,' from the path
of nature and indulging in a certain secret habit
Such persons before contemplating
Marriage,
_ .
should reflect that a sound mind and i•ody aro
the most necessary requisites to promote connu
bial happiness. Indeed without these, tho jour
ney through life becomes a weary pilgrimage,
the prospect hourly darkens to the view; the
mind becomes shadowed with despair, and filled
with the melancholy reflection that the happiness
of another becomes blighted with our own.
