ARMITAGE'S
Electro-Magnet Lightning Rods.
AFTER many years' close investigation and
numerous experiments, the Patentee takes
pleasure In informing the public that he has urn--
red at the true principles of protecting families,
dwellings and property from the destructive in
fluence of Lightning. Iho calamities that
every City, Town, Village and Country falls vic
tim to annually, through the gross negligence of
its inhabitants, is beyond calculation, especially
when the remedy is so easy to obtain—this is
found in Arinitage's Patent Magnetic
Lightning Rode, and in this alone. This
Rod has been examined by the most scientific
gentlemen in the world—Professors M'Murtrie,
Johnson, Wanor and many others that have ex
amined them, recommend and speak of them in
the highest terms of approbation, and here pro
nounced them the only safe rods in use in this or
any other country, for the protection of Lives and
Property. One advantage is to divide and throw
back a part of the electric fluid harmless to the
clouds; in time of a stroke this enables the rod
to conduct that portion of fluid that belongs to
the earth without the slightest danger of leaving
the conductor. This rod has many other advan
tages over the old one. The only place of man
ufacturing is in
Vine R., 3 doors above Twelfth, Philadelphia,
where all persons are respectfully invited to call
, and examine for themselves. For sale Whole

"The bogus rod placed upon our dwelling we
have had taken down; and another ereted by Mr.

op on true scientific principles, and is a rod that
has been approved by the highest authority, and

My once Sin: After a trial of many weeks, it
affords me great pleasure to inform you that I
am highly delighted with the lightning rod you
placed upon my house at Bustleton. As far as
my chemical knowledge enables me to perform
an opinion, I nut satisfied you have developed
the correct principles in the adaptation of rods to
protect property from destruction by lightning; as
soon as the advantages of your arrangements urn
understood, I am convinced that few persons will
ho found so reckless as to fail to avail themselves
of the protection afforded by your rods. Wishing
you all success in your enterprise,

AYER'S PILLS.
ARE YOU SICK I
Then you can't be cored too soon. Don't de
lay until your complaint is incurable, and then
mourn when it is too late. Four fifth of all the
diseases which people the church-yards might
be cured by Ayer's Cathartic Pills, if taken in
season. Don't go dragging through the Spring,
faint sleepy and hatless, because your blood is
loaded with bile. Don't wear the head-ache,
Heartburn, And their kindred disorders, because
your stomach is foul. Don't parade yourself
around the world, covered with Pimples, Blotch
es, Ulcers, Sores and all or any of the unclean
diseases of the skin, because your system wants
cleansing. Don't show yourself about, lean,
haggard, all caved in, bemire your stomach and
bowels need strengthening into healthy nctinn.—
Ayers Pills set these things right as surely as
water quenches fire. They purity the body and
blood, and restore their functions into healthy
activity which you can feel as quick as they ore
taken. They are the ono great medical wonder
of this age, recognized by all who know their
virtues, and many thousands know them. Take
the Cherry Pectoral for a Cough, and the Pills
for all derangements requiring a purgative med

Dr. Johston, member of the Royal College of
Surgeons. London, graduate from one of the
most eminent Colleges of the United States, and
the greater part of whose life lons been spent in
the:Hospitals of London, Paris Philadelphia, and
elsewhere, has effected some of the most aston
ishing cures that were ever known, many trou
bled with ringing in the ears and head when
asleep, great nervousness, being alarmed at sud
den sounds, and bashfulness, with frequent blush
ing attended sometimes with derangement of
mind, were cured immediately.
A CERTAIN DISEASE :It is a melancholy fart
that thousands fall victims to this horrid disease
nosing to the unskilfulness of ignorant pretenders
who by the use of that deadly poison Mercury,
ruin the Constitution, causing the most serious
symptoms of that dreadful disease to make their
appearance, such as affections of the head, nose,
throat, skin, etc., progressing with frightful ra
pidity till death puts a period to their dreadful
suffering, by sending them io that Bourne whence
no traveler returns.
TAKE PARTICULAR NOTICE. --Young men who
have injured themselves by a certain practice in
dulged in when alone—n habit ftequently learned
from evil companions, or at school—the effects
of which are nightly felt, oven when asleep, and
if not cured renders marrioge impossible, and de
stroys both mind and body.
What a pity that a young man, the hope of his
country, and the darling of his parents should he
snatched from all prospects and enjoyments of
life by tho consequence of deviating from the poili
of nature and indulging inn certain secret habit.
Such persons before contemplating Marriage,
should reflect that a sound mind and body are
the most necessary requisites to promote connu
bial happiness Indeed without these, the jour
ney through fife becomes a weary pilgrimage,
the prospect hourly darkens to the view; the
mind becomes shadowed with despair, and tilled
with the melancholy reflection, thut the happiness
oflinother becomes blighted with our

IMPU;SLYA.—These are some of the sad and
melancholy effects produced by early habits of
youth, viz: Weakness of the Back and Limbs,

much to be dreaded; Loss of memory, Confusion
of ideas, Depression of Spirit, Evil Forbodings;
Aversion to Society, Self Distrust, Love of Soli

RHODES'S
FEVER AND AGUE CURE,
For the prevention and Cure of Intermittent
and Remittent Fevers, Fever and Ague, Chills
and Fever, Dumb Ague, General Debility Night
Sweats, and all other forms of disease which have
a common origin in Malaria or Miasma.
This is a natural antidote which will entirely
protect any resident or traveller even in the
most sickly or swampy localities, from any Ague
or Bilious disease whatever, or any injury from
constantly inhaling Malaria or Miasma.
It will instantly check the Ague in persons
who have suffered for any length of time, from
one day to twenty years, so that they need never
to have another chill, by continuing in use ne.
cording to directions. The patient at once begins
to recover appetite and strength, and continues
nt
until a permane and radical cure is effected.
One or two bottles' will answer for ordinary
cases ; some may requip more. Directions prin
ted German, Francis and Spanish, accompany
each bottle. Price one dollar. Liberal dis
counts made to the trade.

EVIDENCE OF SAFETY.
New York, June 11, 1855.
"I have made a chemical examination of
"Rhode's Fever and Ague Cure," or Antidote,
to Malaria, and have tested it for Krsenic, Mer

found a particle of either in it, nor have I found
any substance in its composition that would
prove injurious to the constitution.

EVIDENCE OF MERIT.
Lewisburg, Union Co., Pa., May 2, 1855.
Mr. J. A. Rhodes—Dear Sir ; The box of
medicine you sent me was duly received on the
11th of April. I have sold about one half of it,
and so far the people who have used it, and six
of the cases were of long standing ; my sister.
who had it for five or six years back, and could
never get it stopped, except by Quinine, and
that only as long as she would take, is now, I
think, entirely cured by your remedy.
C. R. McCINGLY."
CAUTION TO AGUE SUFFERERS.
Take no more Arsenic, Tonics, Mercury, Qui
nine, Febrifuges, Strychnino, or Anti-Periodice,
of any kind. The well-known inefficiency of
these noxious poisons proves them to be the off
spring of false medical principles, or of mercena
ry quacks. The only remedy in existence that
is both sure and harmless is

VERY OF THE AGE.
Dr. Kennedy, of Roxbury, ha.i discovered in one
of our common pasture welds n remedy
that cures
AWLEIO C:lt? WADI ,
the worst scrofula down to a c mmon pimple.
He has tried it in over 1100 cedes, and never
failed except in two cases, (both tI under humor.)
He has now in his possession ove: two hundred
certificates of its yin., all within twenty miles
of Boston.
Two bottles are warranted to corn n nursing
sore mouth.
One to three bottles will cure tl e worst kind
of Pimples on the face.
T oor three bottles will clear the system of
Biles.
Two bottles are warranted to cure tire worst
case of Erysipelas.
One to two bottles are warranted to cure all
httmor in the Eyes.
Two bottles are warranted to core running of
th
to cars nod blotches among the hair.
Four to six bottles are warranted to aura cor
ipt and running ulcers.
One bottle will cure scaly eruption of tho
skin.
Two to three bottles nre warranted to cora the
worst case of iingworm.
Two to three bottles nre warranted to cure the
most desperate case of rheumatism.
Three to four bottles are warranted to cure the
salt rheum.
Five to eight bottles will cure the worst case
of scrofula.
A benefit is always experienced from the first
bottle, and a perfect cure is warranted when the
above quantity is taken.
Reader, I peddled over a thousand bottles of
this in the vicinity of Boston. I knew the effect
of it in every case. So sure as water will extin
guish fire, so sure will this cure humor. I Hover
sold a bottle of it but that sold another; after a
trial it always speaks for itself. There aro two
things about this herb that appear to me surpri
sing ; first that it grows in our pastures, in some
places quite plentiful, and yet its value has never
been known until I discovered it in 1046—second
that it should cure all kinds of humor.
In order to give some idea of the sadden rise
and groat popularity of the discovery. I will
state that in April, 1853, I peddled it nod sold
about six bottles per day—in April, 1834, I sold
over ono thousand per day (wit.
Some of the wholesale Druggists who have
been in business twenty and thirty years, say
that nothing in the annals of patent medicines
was ever like it. There is a universal praise of
it from all quarters.
In my own practice I always kept it strictly for
humors—but since its introduction 118 a general
family medicMe, great and wonderful virtues
have been found in it that I never suspected.
Several cases of epileptic fits—a disease which
was always considered incurable, hove been cu
red by a few bottles. 0, what a mercy if it will
prove effectual in all cases of that dreadful mal
ady—there are but few who have more of it than
I have.
1 know of several cases of Dropsy, ell of whom
aged people cured by it. For the various disea
ses of the Liver, Si-k Ileadache, Dyspepsia,
Asthma, Fever and Ague, Pain in the Side, Dis
eases of the Spine, and particularly in diseases
of the Kidneys, &c., the discovery has done more
good than any medicine ever known.
No change of diet ever necessary—eat the best
you ran get and enough of it.
Dinemoris FOR Use.—Adults one table
spoonful per day—Children over ten years des
sert spoonfull —Children from five to eight years
