this in the vicinity of Boston. I knew the effect
of it its every case. Su sure us water will extin
guish fire, so sore will this cure humor. I never
sold a bottle of it but that sold another; after a
trial it always speaks for itself. There are two
things about tbia herb that appear to me surpri
sing ; first that it grows in our pastures, in some
places quite plentiful, and yet its value has never
been known until I discovered it hi
that it should cure all kinds of hunter.
In order to give some idea of the sudden rise
and groat popularity of the discovery. I will
state that in April, 1853, t peddled it and sold
about six bottles per clay—in April, 1854, I sold
over one thousand per clay of it.

Lightning Rods, and in this alone. This

the highest term, of approbation, and have pro
nounced them the only safe roils in use in this or

or Lightning Rod, with vane and index, erected
by Mr. Thomas Armitage, on Bellevue House,
Gloucester, end have no hesitation in saying that
it is not only the boat that I hero ever seen, but
that it is the only one I have yet examined that
is constructed on strictly , eientifie prineifles. It
is with much pleasure that I recommend this
conductor to the attention of owners of buildings.

I am well satisfied that the Magnetic Lightning
Clod, mannfhctured by Mr. Thomas Armitage, of
Philadelphia, is the best that !waver been made•
nave spent several years in the study of the laws
of electricity and magnetism, and have no hesita
tion in saving that these Clods ere construct e d
upon the only principle of safety. The electric
shock is received and dispensed by the magnet at
the top of the rod, anti it would he impossible,
according to the laws of attraction and repulsion, •
fora building to be injured by n stroko of light
ning when protected by one of these rods. I
have been acquainted with Mr. Armitage for SO'
cral years, and before he commenced the manu
facture oethese rods I examined the principle on
which they are constructed, and felt convinced
that their adoption would be attended with com
plete success. The increasing demand for those
rods, and the extensive sales in all parts of the
country, is ample commendation of their utility
and superiority.

have had taken down; and another ereted by Mr.
ARMITA on, to which we would call the attention
of oar farmers nod renders generally. It is put
up on true scientific principles, and is a rod that
hes been approved by the highest authority, and
will hear thu most thorough examination. Those
who hove been deceived, as we have been, should
lose no time in having a proper protection against
lightning, substituted. The cost is a mere beg
atone When compared with the entire safety of
our houses mid barns against this destructive ele
ment. Mr. AstarrAok's advertisement will be
found in the columns of this paper; and WC I ' M
no though wo were performing nn imperious duty
to the eommunity, by thus inviting to it general
attention."
