GOTNO UP.—Tile foundation for the new
church edifice, which the Methodist Congrega
tion of this place are erecting, is going up ve
ry rapidly. Mr. Reuben Romig is the contrac
tor.
A Rior.—A riot occurred on Allegheny st•
on Saturday last, between a party of Irish la•
borers on the Broad Top Railroad, and a por•
Lion of our "culled" population. Several of
the Irish were injured I the Africans coming
off victorious.
SCHOOL FIIRNITURE.—The new school room,
intended for the male department of the pub
lic school of the borough, has been fitted up in
handsome style. The desks, chairs, &c., were
purchased at Harrisburg, and cost something
like two hundred dollars.

able damage, we are informed, to the grain in
the northern part of our county. In come of
the fields, where grain was unusually thick, it
prostrated it entirely. One or two of our Wood
cock Valley farmers are also sufferers.
SOUND MUYEII.—Jost before the late show
ers, an old negro who dosen't live "far abort
here," was setting on his fence ; just befoto the
precious rain began to fall, he lilted his largo
black hands and white eyes to heaven, and said:
"Oh, Led 1 sen all de big drops on dis nigger's
corn and tater patch."
Tue BAsis.—The basin of the Broad Top
Railroad, intended for the loading of boats,
is being rapidly completed. In digging, the
workmen came across several vats, in one of
which, two or three sides oflenther were found.
The basin will extend from Porlatown, till near
Montimmery street._
Ova Mmtoiv.-13utter is becoming very plen
ty and can be procured lin- 121 cents per pound.
Eggs are selling at from 10 to 121 cts. per do
zen. The flue nppearance of the crops thro%
out the county have had a tendency towards re
ducing the price of grain, no the farmers are
bringing in their grain which they have been
holding back, waiting fur higher prices.
THAT SNAKE IlliXT.-WO Sec that the editor
of the Lewistown Ortzette, has gotten up a par
ty, consisting of all the editors on the Juniata,
who may son proper to go. It is to be a 4th of
July jollification, and will start from some point
no the Pennsylvania Railroad, and will contin•
ae for a week or so. We'll go, provided the
company agrees to adopt the real "Ingin fash
ion," and "camp out." What do you say Fry
silver ?

PHILADELPHIA MARKETS._
PLoca—The inark,t continues dull. There
is no demand for shipment, and only a few
small lots found buyers at $10,50010,75 tbr
common and good brands, and $1.1,e511,25
per barrel for extra, accenting to quality.—
Rye flour is also quiet at $7,75 per barrel.—
Corn Meal is in limited request, and a sale of
'2OO barrels Country Meal was made at $4,75
per barrel. Wheat, with moderate receipts
continues dull and deooping—about 2,000 bus.
Western Red sold at a price not public, and
1,500 bushels good Pennsylvania White at $2,-
58. Corn is less active, but the receipts are
light, and only about 3,000 bushels Delaware
and Pennsylvania Yellow sold at 107 cents,
afloat. Rye is rather lower, and 2,000 bushels
brought 156 cents. Oats are dull and unset
tled, and sales of 3(4;4000 bushels mostly Sou
thern, are reported at 60(ri;63 cents per bushel,
which is a further decline. The markets fur
Groceries remains inactive with a small busi
ness in Sugar and Co Tee to note at steady
rates. Molasses is wanted at previous prices.
Tho Provision market is quiet for the want of
stock. Mess Pork is held. at $18,50; mid Beef
at $l9 per barrel ; Bacon sold as warranted at
121}0133 cents for Rains, 10 cents for Sides,
and 9 cents for shoulders. Cut Meats bring
about one cent per pound less. T. 4 ard and
Butter are steady in price.

Inure the East cud of the Huntingdon, Cam
brio & Indiana turnpike rend, from In eas
tern terminus in the borough of Huntingdon,
to GeminiWs Mill west of the borough of Alex
andria, is abandoned and no toll collected for
the use of that distance. _
The Supervisors of the several boroughs and
townships through width that part of said road
passes, are hereby notified to take charge of
the same—as per art of Assembly concern ing
'certain turnpike roads, passed 19th of April
