it exists,—North, South East or West,—and will
everywhere yield to this newly discovered anti

This specific is so harmless that it may be ta

and it will not substitute for one disease others
still worse, as is too often the result in the
treatment by Quinine, Mercury, Ar6CtliC, and
other poisonous or deletrcous frogs not a para.

The proprietor tlistinetly claims these extra

It will entirely protect any resident or travel

GREATEST MEDICAL DISCO
VERY OF THE AGE.
Dr. Kennedy, of Itoxltury, lms discovered in one
of our common pasture weeds a remedy

the worst scrofula down to a common pimple.
ire has tried it in over 1100 cases, end never

lie him now in his possession over two hundred
certificates of its viatue, all within twenty miles
or Boston.

Four to six bottles are warranted to cure cor

Ono bottle will cure scaly eruption of the

Two to three bottles are warranted to cure the

Two to three bottles are warranted to cure the

Three to tour bottles are warranted to cure the
salt 'imam. ,
Fire to eight bottles will cure the worst ease
of scrofula.
A benefit is always experienced from the first
bottle, and a perfect cure is warranted when the
above quantity is taken.
Reader, I peddled over a thousand bottles of
this in the vicinity of Boston. I knew the effect
of it in every case. fie sure as water will extin
guish tire, so sure will this cure humor. 1 never
sold a bottlu of it but that sold another; after a
trial it always speaks for itself. There are two
things about this herb that appear to me surpri
sing ; first that it grows in our pastures, in some
places quite plentiful, and yet its value has never
been known until I discovered it in 1846—second
that it should cure all kinds of humor.
In order to give some idea of the sudden rise
and great popularity of the discovery. I will
state that in April, 185:3, I peddled it nod sold
about six bottles per day—in April, 1854, I sold
over one thousand per day of it.
. .
Some of the wholesale Druggists who have
been in business twenty and thirty years, say
that nothing in the annals of patent medicines
was ever like it. TM re is a universal praise of
it from all quarters.
In my own practice I always kept it strictly for
humors—hot sines its introduction as a general
family medicine, great and wonderful virtues
have been found it that I never suspected.
Several cases of epileptic fits—a disease whirls
was always considered incurable, have been cu
red by a few bottles. 0, what a mercy if it will
prove effectual its nll eases of that dreadful mal
ady—there are but few who have more of it than
I , have.
I know of several cases of Dropsy, all of whom
aged people cured by it. For the various disea
ses or the Liver, Si-k Headache, Dyspepsia,
Asthma, Fever 111111 Ague, Pain in the Side, Dis
eases of the Spine, and particularly in diseases
or the Kidneys, &c., the discovery has done more
good than any medicine ever known.

ARMITAGE'S
Electro-Magnet Lightning Rods.
AFTER many years' close investigation and
numerous experiments. the Patentee takes
pleasure in informing the public that he has arri
ved at the true principles of protecting families,
dwellings and property from the destructive in
flounce of Lightning. The calamities that
every City, Town, Village and Country fulls vic
tim to annually,. through the gross negligence of
its inhabitants, is beyond calculation, especially
when the remedy is no easy to obtain—this is
found in Arnsitage's Patent Magnetic
Lightning Mods, and in this alone. This
Rod has been examined by the most scientific
gentlemen in the world—Professors M'Murtrie,
Johnson, Wanor and many others that have ex
amined them. recommend and speak of them in
the highest terms of approbation, and have pro
nounced them the only safe rods in use in this or
any other country, for the protection of Lives and
Property. One advantage is to divide and throw
hack a part of the electric fluid harmless to the
clouds; in time of a stroke this enables the rod
to conduct that portion of fluid that belongs to
the earth without the slightest danger of leaving
the conductor. This rod has many other advan
tages over the old one. The only place of man
tnricturing)l,..in
Trine 5(., 3 doors above Twelfth, Philadelphia,
where all persons are respectfully invited to call
and examine for themselves. For sale Whole
sale and Retail, by TROS. ARMITAGE.

Recommendations.
I' THAI Aug. 13, 1847.
I have this day carefully inspected a conductor
or Lightning Rod, with vane and index, erected
by Mr. Thomas Armitage, on Bellevue House,
Gloucester, and hove no hesitation in saying that
it is not only the best that I have ever seen, but
that it is the only ono I hare yet examined that
is constructed on strictly scientific principles. It
is with much pleasure that I recommend this
conductor to the attention of owners of buildings.
IL McMURTRIR.
I am well satisfied that the Magnetic Lightning
Rod, manufactured by Mr. Thomas Armitage, of
Philadelphia, is the best that has ever been made•
I have spent several years in the study of the laws
of electricity and magnetism, and have no hesita
tion in saying that these Rods are constructed
upon the only principle of safety. The electric
shock is received and disposed by the magnet at
the top of the rod, and it would he impossible,
according to the laws of attmtion and repulsion,
for a building to be injured by a stroke of light
ning when protected by one of these rods. I
have been acquainted with Mr. Armitage for sev
eral years, and before he commenced the manu
facture of these rods I examined the principle on
which they are constructed, and felt convinced
that their adoption would be attended with com
plete success. The increasing demand for these
rods, and the extensive sales in all parts of the
country, is ample commendation of their utility
and superiority.

"The bogus rad placed upon our dwelling we
hero had token down; and another eretcd by Mr.
Ausnraoa, to which we would call the attention
of our farmers and readers generally. It is put
up on true scientific principle:a, end is a rod that
has been npproved by the highest authority., and
will beer the most thorough examination. Those
who have been deceived, as we have been, should
Inse no time in ',Ming a proper protection against
Lightning, substituted. 'rho cost is a mere bag
atelle when compared with the entire safety of
oar houses and barns against this destructive ele
munt. Mr. AIIMITAOE'S advertisement will he
found in the columns of this paper; and we feel
as thote 4 h we were performing an imperious duty
to the community, by that inviting to it general
attention."

Ms man Stu After a trial of many weeks, it
affords tne great pleasure to ittibrm you that I
am highly delighfed with the lightning rod you

my chemical knowledge enables me to perform
ER opinion, I am satisfied you have developed
the correct principles in the adaptation of rods to
protect property from destruction by lightning; us
soon as the advantages of your arrangements are
understood, I am convinced that tow persons will
be round so reckless as to fail to avail themselves
of the protection ntforded by your rods. Wishing
you all success in your enterprise,
