the treatment of Consumption. Asthma and all
diseases of the Lung. We refer to "Dr. Curtis'
Ifygeans, or Inhaling Ilygean Vapor and Cher

restored many afflicted ones to perfect health ;
as an evidence of which he has innumerable cer

the medicinal properties must come in direct con.

changes produced upon them when introduced
into the stomach, and subjected to the process
of digestion. The Ilygeana is for sale at all the

F THE AGE.
Ytf, ot Roxhury, hus discovered in one
llr. der common pasture weeds a remedy
that cures
MINED:7 [RUED OR itamaa„
the worst scrorula down to a common pimple.
He has tried it in over 1100 cases, and never
failed except in two cases, (both thunder humor.)
He hos now in his possession over two hundred
certificates of its virtue, all within twenty miles
of Boston.
Two bottles are warranted to cure a nursing
sore mouth.
One to three bottles will cure tl e worst kind
of Pimples on the face.
T oor three bottles will clear the system of
Biles.
Two bottles are warranted to cure the worst
case of Erysipelas.
One to taro bottles are warranted to cure all
humor in the Eyes.
Two bottles are warranted to cure running of
the cars and blotches among the hair.
Four to six bottles are warranted to cure cor
rupt and running ulcers.
One bottle will cure scaly eruption of the
skin.
Two to three bottles are warranted to curs the
worst case of ringworm.
Two to three bottler are warranted to cure the
most desperate case of rheumatism.
Three to four bottles are wa rranted to cure the
salt !Ileum.
Five to eight bottles will cure the worst case
of scrofula.
A benefit is always experienced from the first
bottle, and a perfect cure is warranted when the
above quantity is taken.
Reader, I peddled over a thousand bottles of
this in the vicinity of Boston. I knew the effect
of it in every case. So sure as water wilt extin
gnish fire, so sure will this cure humor. I never
sold a bottle of it hut that sold another ; after it
trial it always speaks for itself. There sire two
things about this herb that appear to me surpri
sing ; first that it grows in our pastures, in some
Places quite plentiful, and yet its value has never
been known until I discovered it in 1846—second
that it should cure all kinds of humor.
In order to give some idea of the sudden rise
and great popularity of the discovery. I will
state that in April, 1853, I peddled it and sold
about six bottles per day—in April, 1854, I sold.
over one thousand per day of it.
Some of the wholesale Druggists who have
been in business twenty and thirty years, say
that nothing in the annals of patent medicines
was ever like it. TM re is a universal praise of
it from all quarters.
In my own practice I always kept it strictly for
humors—hat since its introduction as a general
family medicine, great end wonderful virtues
have been found in it that I never suspected.
Several eases of epileptic fits—a disease which
was always considered incurable, have been cu
red by a few ltottles. 0, what a mercy if it will
prove effectual in all cases of that dreadful mal
ady—there urn but few who have more of it than
I have.
I know of several cases of Dropsy, all of whom
aged people cured by it. For the various disea
ses of the Liver, Si-k Ileadache, Dyspepsia,
Asthma, Fever and Ague, Pain in the Side, Dis
eases of the Spine, and partienlarly in diseases
of the Kidneys, /cc., the discovery has done more
good than any medicine ever known.
No change of diet ever necessary—eat the best
you can get and enough of it.
DinEcnorts von Use.—Adults - one table
spoonful per any—Children over ten years des
set t spoonfull —Children from tive to eight years
teaspoonful!. As no directions can be applica

ARMITAGE'S
Electro-Magnet Lightning Rods.
A FTER many years' close investigation and
/1 numerous experiments, the Patentee takes
pleasure in informing the public that he has arri
ved at the true principles of protecting families,
dwellings and property from the destructive in
fluence of Lightning. The calamities that
every City, Town, Village and Country falls vic
tim to annually, through the gross negligence of
its inhabitants, is beyond calculation, especially
when the remedy is so easy to obtain—this le
found in Armitage's Patent Magnetic
Lightning Rode, and in this alone. This
Rod has been examined by the most scientific
gentlemen in the world—Professors M'Mursrie,
Johnson, Wallor and many others that have ex
amined them, recommend and speak of them in
the highest terms of approbation, and have pro
nounced them the only safe rods in use in this or
any other country, for the protection of Lives and
Property. One advantage is to divide and throw
back a part of the electric fluid harmless to the
clouds. ' in time of a stroke this enable s the rod
to conduct that portion of fluid that belongs to
the earth without the slightest danger of leaving
the conductor. This rod has many other advan
tages over the old one. The only place of man
uteettning is in
Vine St., - 3
doors above Twelfth, Philadelphia,
where all persons are respectfully invited to call
and examine for themselves. For sale Whole
sale and Retail, by THOS. ARMITAGE.
Orders promptly attended to. Terms cash.
Recommendations.
Pun.ADA.. Aug. 13, 1847.
I have this day carefully inspected a Conductor
or Lightning Rod, with vane and index, erected
by Mr. Thomas Armitage, on Bellevue House,
Gloucester, and have no hesitation in saying that
it is not only the best that I have ever seen, hut
that it is the only one I have yet examined that
is constructed on strictly iwientific principles. It
is with much pleasure that I recommend this
conductor to the attention of owners of buildings.
H. McMURTRIE.
I am well satisfied that the Magnetic Lightning
Rod, manufactured by Mr. Thomas Armitage, of
Philadelphia, is the best that has over been made.
'have spent several years in the study of the laws
of electricity and magnetism, and have no hesita
tion in saying that these Rods are constructed
upon the only principle of safety. The electric
shock is received and dispersed by the magnet at
the top of the rod, and it would be impossible,
according to the laws of attraction nod repulsion,
fora building to be injured by a stroke of light
ning when protected by one of these rods. I
have been acquainted with Mr. Armitage for sev
eral years, and before he commenced the mann•
facture of these rods I examined the principle on
which they are constructed, and felt convinced
that their adoption would he attended with com
plete success. The increasing demand for these
rods, and the extensive sales in all parts of the
coentry, is ample commendation of their utility
and superiority.

The following extrart is taken from an eilitori-
II in the Germantown Telegraph, edited by Major
FREAS _
"The hops rod placed upon our dwelling we
have had taken down; and another ereted by Mr.
ARMITAGE, to which we would call the attention
of our farmers and readers generally. It is put
up on true scientific principles, and is a rod that
has been approved by the highest authority, and
will bear the most thorough examination. those
who have been deceived, as we have been, should
lose no time in having a proper protection against
lightning, substituted. The cost is a mere bag
atelle when compared with tho entire safety of
our houses and barns against this destructive ele
ment. Mr. ARMITAGE:I4 advertisement will be
found in the columns of this paper; and we feel
as though we were performing an imperious duty
to the community, by thus inviting to it general
attention."
PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 4, 1852.

Street, Philadelphia.
Mr DEAR Sin: After a trial of many weeks, it
affords me great pleasure to inform you that I
am highly delighted with the lightning rod you
placed upon my house nt Bustleton. As far as
my chemical knowledge enables me to perform
an opinion, I am satisfied you have developed
the correct principles in the adaptation of reds to
protect property from destruction by lightning; as
soon as the advantages of your arrangements are
understood, 1 am convinced that few parsons will
be found no reckless as to foil to avail themselves
of the protection afforded by your rode. Wishing
you all success in your enterprise,
I am yours truly,
