John Farrel—Sir: It affords me much sat isfaction to inform you that the "Herring Sala mander Sure" which we purchased ayou a short time since, preserved our books and papers in good condition, during the severe ordeal through which it passed at the disastrous conflagration that took plaen at our warehouse on the morning of the 28th lost , when the safe was exposed to the most intense heat for some hours, and when dragged from the flames was red hot on several sides.
