A BELFAST LANDLORD IN TIPPERA
RY.—The Tipperary Vendictor and Lim
erick Reporter has an interesting account
of an entertainment given to the tenants
on the lands of Clonboo, Dorryloughter,
and Toher, near the town of Templemore,
in the County of Tipperary, by their land
lord Mr. Graham, hat manufacturer Brigde
Street, Belfast. The lands in question
formed part of the estates of the Earl of
Carrick, and were purchased; last spring,
in the Encumbered Estates Court, by Mr.
Graham. On this occasion having gone
to meet his tenantry, Mr. Graham enter
tained them at an elegant repast at the re
sidence of his agent, Mr. Dudley Bycne, to
which eighty six persons sat down. On
the removal of the cloth, toasts succeeded,.
and Mr. Graham was honored with a bump
er and "nine times nine," and a similar
compliment was conferred on Mrs. Graham,
Dancing succeeded, and was kept up with
spirit, as usual; in that region of high spir
its and light heels, till after four o'clock
in the morning, when the company separa
ted after three hearty cheers for the host.
The "Irish Party," now disclaiming
those who have taken office, will only be
the More resolute against the government
that has gained them, considering, as men
say, that those who seduced them are as
bad as' themselves. This will keep the
government on their sharps on the one
side, while Disraeli and the Tories will
"flap" them on the other. But the new
purchasers of estates, encouraging the far
mers, being mostly f a class that can sym
pathise better with them than the "high
and dry" scions of the aristocracy, who
knows more of the sinks of Paris, or the
hells of Baden or the styes of Naples than
of the Tipperary or Mayo peasantry and
their privations, will spread content and

the first place, I have a sweet figure, char

a man unhappy, I could not thirik of
less than two thousand' a year, though
fifteen hundred might possibly be accept
de from a commoner. You may perhaps,
laugh at hearing me make-a man miserable'
who shall honor me with his hand us an

member that the univesrsal custom is, the
mire fashionable it must bo considered;
and that making each other wretched is
ono of the accomplishments among a cer
tain people of distinction. Not but that
I can preserve appearances tolerably well;
I could say my life, to my husband, at the
same time I was winking at another man in
the company: and call him a dear creature!
at the very time I thought him the great
est brute in the universe.

does a man's goodness do when it don't do
you any good i We have no doubt that
every one thinks that all have paid except
him, and that we are olever fellows, and
this is a small matter, aad will make no
difference. It would not, if it were confi
ned to a dozen or a hundred cases, but
when the slow fever seizes too many, the
complaint is altogether too general. As
the bullfrog said, "It's fun to you but it's
death to us "

Birmingham Female Seminary.
The liberal patronage which this School has
received in the past, encourages the proprietor
and friends of female education, to expect by
proper exertion to make it both a premanent and
important Institution; and no pains will by spar
ed to sustain its growing reputation.
Among other considerations which inspire hope
as to its future. sucess, the location is not unim
portant. Three years actual experiment has de
veloped a more philosophical, if not a truer reas
on for the existence of Birmingham than many
which have been assigned—that it is the situation
fur a Female Seminary, surrounded as it is by
Most romantic scenery—retired—healthful—easy
of access and in itself a place where one might al
most grow wise in the study of Nature alone un
mocked by the works of Art.
The school year is divided into two Sessions of
I twenty-two weeks each; the summer term com
mencing the last Tuesday in April, the winter
term the last Tuesday in October.
Charges to date from time of entering, and no
deductions made for absence except in case o
sickness.
Tuition $4,00 and $5,00 per quarter—boarding

\TOTICE is hereby given to the keepers of Inns'
IN and Taverns within the county of Hunting
don, that the Judges of the Court of Quarter Ses
sions of said county, enjoin upon the keepers of
such Inns and Taverns that they close their res
pective bars on the Sabbath, and refrain from
selling or dealing out liquors on that day ' • and
the licenses of such persons as shall disregard this
injunction will be revoked forthwith agreeably to
the Act of Assembly in such case made and pro
vided upon the fact of such violation coming to
the knowledge of the Court.
