    DIED.
At Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on Sanday the
23d ult., at the residence of her brother-in-law,
David R. Porter, Esq., Mrs. JANE MARSHALL,
the widow of the late George Marshall.
From the Harrisburg Telegraph, we make an
extract from an Obituary notice, as follows, viz
Mrs. Marshall married in early life, but was be
reaved of her husband after the lapse of a few
years. In the year 1821 she became a member of
the family in whose bosom she died. Childless
herself, her chief occupation, during this long pe
riod, was the care of a large family of children.—
With what unwearying kindness, she discharged
the duties of this relation, how faithfully she im
pressed on the youthful mind her lessons of for
bearance and moderation, how eloquently, by her
example, she advocated the cause of virtue—that
would indeed require more than the compass of
an obituary to portray. She was a generous, un
selfish, confiding, truthful woman. To bitterness,
envy, and pride, she was a stranger. The chari
ty of her heart was comprehensive and sincere.—
Even to that large class of persons who rank po
litical detraction among the duties of life, she was
able without an effort to extend forgiveness. She
was horn for the enjoyment of pence, 'and she
lived and died at peace with the world, with her
self, and with God. The disease which termina
ted her life, was protracted and painful. During
its cOntintlance, she was attended by physicians,
over whose earliest infitney she had watched, and
who, in their turn, contributed all that skill unii
care could administer for her relief. But fa• above
all physical sufferings, her immortal spirit was
sustained in a manner which might well renter
the ease worthy of snore permanent record. A
bout twenty years preceding her sleuth, she butt
made is profession of her faith, under the ministry
of the Rev. John Fettles, of Huntingdon, Penn's.
In the early stages of her last illness, she suffered
much from despondency and doubt. Of this she
was subsequently relieved in a sudden and remark
able manner. She experienced a clear and vivid
sense of the pardon of her sins, to which she made
frequent allusion. She maintained that, great as
they were, else had seen them all pardoned, one by
one. From this time, she experienced entire free
dom from doubts, and tasted the purest spiritual
joy. Within a few hours of her departure, when
in the very act of stuggling in death, one of her
physicians said, "You are suffering vary nitwit."
"0 ! yes," was the reply; "but I am so happy I"
In a short titne the light of the Sabbath broke
over her sufferings, and before it departed, the
light of an eternal Sabbath had, as we firmly
trust, dawned on the soul of the sufferer. 0
