1)R. JOHNSTON, Member of the Royal Col
lege of Surgeons. London, graduate from one of
the most eminent Colleges of the United States,
and the greater part of whose life has been spent
in the Hospitals of London, Paris, Philadelphia,
and elsewhere, has effected some of the most as
tonishing cures that were ever known, many
troubled with ringing in the ears and head when
asleep, great nervousness, being alarmed at sud
den sounds, and bashfulness, with frequent blush
ing, attended sometimes with derangement of
mind, were cured immediately.
A CERTAIN DISEASE.—It is a melancholy
facts that thousands fall Victims to this !torrid dis
ease owing to the Unskillfulness of ignorant pre
tenders, who by the use of that deadly poison
Mercury, ruin the Constitution, causing the most
serious symptoms of this dreadful disease to make 1
their appearance, such ns affections of the head,
throat, nose, skin, etc., progressing with flight
ful rapidity till death puts a period to their dread
ful suffering, by sending them to that hoarse
eience no traveler returns.
TAKE PARTICULAR NOTICE.—Young
men who have injured themselves by a certain
practice indulged in when alone—a habit frequent
ly learned from evil companions, or at school—the
effects of which are nightly la, even when asleep,
and if not cured renders marriage impossible, and
destroys both mind and body.
What a pity that a young man, the hope of his
country, and the darling of his parents should be
snatched from all prospects and enjoyments of life
by the consequences of deviating front the path of
nature and indulging in a certain secret habit.—
Such persons before contemplating.
MARRIAGE, should reflect that a sound mind
and body are the most necessary requisitsts to
promote connubial happiness. Indeed, without
these, the journey through life becomes a wcau•y
pilgrimage. the prospect hourly darkens to the
view; the mind becomes shadowed with dispair,
and tilled with the melancholy reflection, that the
oappi-ness of another becomes blighted with our
awn.
CONSTITUTIONAL DEBILITY.—Dr. J.
bps resses young men, and all who have injured
htomselves by private and improper indulgence.
IMPUISSANE.—These arc some of the sad
and melancholy abets produced by early habits of
youth, viz: Weakness of the Back and Limbs,
Pains in the head. Dimness of Sight, Loss of
Muscular Power, Palpitation of the Heart Dys

Digestive Functions, General Debility Symptoms
of Consumption, &c.
4beittollyLThe fearful effects on the mind • are
much to be dreaded; Loss of Memory, Confusion
of ideas, Depression of Spirit, Evil Vorbodings,
Aversion to Society, Self Distrust, Love of Soli

Thousands of persons of all ages, can now judge
what is the cause of their declining health. Los

which have been assigned—that it is the situation

The editor said, Dec. 22nd
Dr. Hoyland's Celebrated German Bitters for
the cure of Live, Complaint, Jaundice, Dyspepsia,
Chronic or Nervous Debility, is deservedly one of
the most popular medicines of the day. These
Bitters have been used by thousands, and a friend
at our elbow says he had himself received an effec
tual and permanent cure of Liver Complaint front
the use of this remedy. We aro convinced that,
in the use of these Bitters, the patient constantly
gains strength and vigor—a ilia worthy of great
consideration. They are pleasant in tast and
smell, and can be used by persons with the most
delicate stomachs with safety, under any circum
stances. We are speaking from experience, and
to the afflicted we advise their use.

"1)n. GOOFLAND'd GERMAN BITTERS, manu
factured by Dr. Jackson, are now recommended
by some of the most prominent members of the
faculty as en article of much efficacy in cases of
female weakness. As such is the case, we would
advise all mothers to obtain a bottle, and thus save
themselves much sickness. Persons of debilitated
constitutions will find these Bitters advantageous
to their health, as we know from cAperience the
salutary effect they have upon weak systems."

The "Philadelphia Saturday Gazette." the best
family newspaper published in the United States,
The editor says of
DR. lIOOFLAND'S GERMAN BITTERS
"It is seldom that we recommend what are
termed Patent Medicines, to the cofidence and
patronage of our readers; and therefore when we
recommend Dr. Ilootland's German Bitters, we
wish it to be distinctly understood that we are not
speaking of the nostrums of the day, that are nois
ed about for a brief period and then forgotten after
they have done their guilty race of mischief, but or
a medicine long established, universally prized,
and which has met the hearty approval of the the
ulty itself.
kvidence upon evidence has been received (like
aeforegoing) from all sections of the Union, the
also throe years, and the strongest testimony in its
favor is, that there is more of it used in the prac
tice of the regular Physicians of Philadelphia, than
all other nostrums combined, a thct that can easily
be csablishcd, and fully proving that a scientific
pr,peration will meet with their quiet approval
when presented even in this form.
That this Medicine will cure Liver Complaint
and Dyspepsia, no one can doubt after using it as
directed. It acts specifically upon the stomach and
liver; it is preferable to calomel in all bilious dis
eases—the effect is immediate. They can be ad
ministered to tilmale or infinit with satiny and re
liable benefit at any tune.
BEWARE OF COUNTERFEITS.
This medicine has attainsd that high character
which is necesary for all medicines to attain to
induce counterfeiters to put forth spurious articles
at the risk of the lives of those who are innocently
deceived.
Look well to the marks of the genuine
They have the written signature of C. M.

DIGESTIVE FLUID,
on, GASTRIC JUICE.
Prepared from Rennet, or the fourth
stomach of the ox, after directions of Baron
Liebig, the great Physiological Chemist, by J. S
Houghton M. D. Philadelphia, Pa.
This is it
Houghton,
wonderful remedy for Indigestion,
Dyspepsia, Jaundice, Liver Complaint, Consti
pation, and Debility, Curing after Nature's own
method, by Nature's own Agent, the Gastric
Juice.
0 — Half a teaspoonful of PEPSIN, infused in wa
ter, will digest or dissolve, Fire Pounds of Roost
Besf 11 about two hours, out of the stomach.
PEPSIN is the chief element, or Great Digest
ing Principle of the Gastric Juice—the Solvent of
the Food, the Purifying, Preserving, and Stin n d a
tiny Agent of the Stomach and Intestines. It
is extracted from the Digestive Stomach of the
Ox, thus forming an Artificial Digestive Fluid,
precisely like the natural Gastric Juice in its
Chemical powers, and furnishing a Complete and
Perfect Substitute for it. By the aid of this
preparation, the pains and evils of Indigestion and
Dyspepsia are removed, just as they would be by
a healthy Stomach. It is doing wonders for Dys
peptics, curing cases of Debility, Emaciation, Ner
vous Decline, and Dyspeptic Consumption, sup-.
posed to be on the verge of thegrave. The
Scientific Evidence upon which it is based, is in
the highest degree Curious anti Remarkable.
SCI - I.INTFIC EVIDENCE!
BARON LItUIIG in his celebrated work on
Animal Chemistry, says: "An Artificial Diges
tive Maid, analogous to the Gastric Juice, may
be readily prepared woq the meat and eggs, will
be softened, changed, and digested, just in the
same manner as they would be in the human
stomach."
Dr. COMBE, in his valuable writings on the
" Physiology of Digestion," observes that "a
dimicution of the due quantity of the Gastric
Juice is a prominent and all-prevailing cause of
Dyspepsia.," and he states that "a ditinguished
professor of medicine in London, who was severe
ly afflicted with this complaint, finding everything
else to fail, had ecourso to the Gastric Juice, ob
tained from the stomachs of living animals, which
proved completly successful."
