VALUABLE MEDICINES
From the Laboratory of the Celebrated.
Dr. J. S. ROSE, of Philada.
R. ROSE'S ALTERATIVE, For the rad
ical cure of Scrofula, Diseases of the
Bone, stubborn Ulcere, Liver Complaints, old
Eruptions, Rheumatism, and every Disease
arising from an impure state of the blood.
The great power of this valuable Medicine
being now fully established by the many cures
it has effected of CONSUMPTION, BRON
CHITIS, GLANDULAR and LIVER DIS
EASE, SCROFULA, lIIP.JOINT affection,
RHEUMATIC, SYPHILITIC, and all impu
rities of the blood, has sufficiently proven to
the public its superior panacea'. power above
all nostrums now in use. Price SI.
DR. ROSE'S DYSPEPTIC COMPOUND.
Tut LIVER, being the largest gland in the
human body, is more frequently deranged in
its healthy action than any other. The con
sequences of this derangement are first Dys
pepsia, known by costiveness belching up of
wind, sour stomach, and sometimes Diarrhoea
or looseness of the bowels, headache, nervous
feelings, cold feet, wakefulness, end variable
appetite, &c. Secondly, if the above symp
toms are allowed to go on long without this
Medicine, (which will always cure or remove
them,) then follows debility of the lungs and
predisposition to consnmption.
Dr. Rose has been called on by over THREE
THOUSAND CASES within the last few years, and
many of them had tried the various bitter com
pounds to their delusion; fortunately the most
were in time and were soon cured by the above
compound, which contains no mercury, and
does not iujure, but always improves the con
stitution, as thousands can testify. Price 50
cents.
DR. ROSE'S CARMINITIVE BALSAM.
This beautiful preparation has been used by
me in a full practice of thirty years in the city
of Philadelphia, and is a never-failing remdy for
cholera-morbus, dysentery, bowel complaint,
flatulency, &c. Price 25 cents.
DR. ROSE'S VEGITABLE VERM [MOE.
This compound having been used by me in a
full practice of twenty-six years, with the most
beneficial results in cases of worms, has so well
established its superiority above most other
worm medicines that the demand has increased
beyond all calculation. All medicines should
be prepared bye physician and chemist. It is
true that many articles are now sold as good
for worms, but it should be remembered that
many are too powerful for the constitution of
young children. Price 2.5 cents.
DR. ROSE'S FAMILY OR SANITIVE
PILLS.
These pills are conCently recommended for
Dyspepsia, disease of the Liver, Costiveness,
and for the constant use of families, as they are
mild, and certain in their operation, causing. no
plin or uneasiness, leaving the bowels perfect
ly free from costiveness. Price 23 cents.
DR. ROSE'S EXPECTORANT, OR COUGH
SYRUP, a certain cute for all diseases of the
lungs, spitting of blood, bronchitis, asthma,
colds, coughs, and consumption. This syrup
has no equal. Fifty cents and $1 per bottle.
DR. ROSE'S HAIR TONIC.
This invaluable compound for the hair has
been used and highly recommended by the late
and truly great Dr. Physic, of Philadelphia.—
Price 50 cents.
DR. ROSE'S CROUP OR HITE SYRUP.
There has been many remedies compounded
for the core of Croup or limes. The disease
is particularly prevalent among children, and
often fatal; but as I have never seen a case
terminate fatally or continue Tong where this
syrup was used, I can recommend it with the
h:eheat confidence. Price 25 cents. See di
rections.
The afflicted are invited to call upon the
Agent, and procure (gratis) one of the Doctor's
pamphlets giving a detailed account of each
remedy and its application.
These medicines are in high repute,
and can
be relied upon as suiting the diseases for which
they are recommended, as they are the result of
an extensive practice for the last thirty years
in the city of Philadelphia.

GOOD TESTIMONY.
The Louisville Courier thus speaks of Bull's Sarsaparilla:
We hove been shown, by Mr. John Bull, proprietor of
that world-renowned preparation, "Bull's Fluid Extract of
Sarsaparilla," on original, genuine, and beautiful letter,
addressed to him by the accomplished lady of one of the
most eminent old physicians In the West, giving a detailed
/Lemont of one of tile most Rotonishing cures on record, per
formed alone by the use of "Bull's Sarsaparilla."
This most excellent and charming lady had long suffered
from pmlapsus uteri, fluor albus, piles, and chronic diseases
of the stomach and digestive organs, and derangement of
the whole system, attended with distrewing cutaneous erup-
tion, rick headaelie, and violent attacks of cramp. After
ImlinuAting all of her husband's skill, and applying to many
celebrated medico] gentlemen, both at home and abroad,
and also using great quantities of " Townsend's Sarßapa-
Alla,' without the slighteotrelief, she was induced to use
folio itarsainrilia." lii;cl what was it; happy
result? After the use of a few bottles, a perfect and won
derful cure--the lady restored to perfect health, and to her
usual flow of spirits.
Snell letters ;is the rine wo speak of, must afford Mr. Bull
More rent gratification, than mold the possession of count
less wealth. And whether he accumulator wealth or not
by the sale of his truly valuable Montane, being lie author
is glory and honor enough; and he eau my to the world,
without fear of contradiction, "I have in my poverty re
bored more human sutt'ering, than did Stephen Girard or
John Jacob Astor with their millions."
RITEIJMATISM CURED !
Let .1.!: vSo are suffering under the agonising tortures of
ithenmatisni rend the following, and see what may be done
Air them, if they will use the infallible remedy:
UNIONTOWN, Kr., May 12, 1848.
Ma. Juno Butt: Dear Sir,—For the last three years, I
have been afflicted with Rheumatism of the severest char
acter. I was at times in the greatest agony of pain. I tried
every roinedy I meld procure for the disease; but found no
permanent relief until I was Induced to use your prepare.
lion of i , arsaparilla, which has entirely cured me of Rheu
matism, and greatly improved my general health more
than any medicine I ever used. I have been free from pain
for several months, and have no doubt the cure is perms•
neat; end I recommend it as the best medicine in use for
Rheumatism. 181IAM MIDGES.
It be useless to produce further testimony in favor of this
great remedy. It has only to be tried and proved, to cos•
Time the public of its superior efficacy.
Notice to Females.
John Bun Sarsaparilla is ono of the greatest female
medicines now in existence. In those numerous cases
where the constitution is debilitated, the nervous energy is
lessened, when the efforts of nature are weak and deficient,
or are profuse and overwrought, when the face is pale and
colorless, the strength feeble and yielding, the spirit trou
bled and di pressed, the health broken, mind shaken, and
eptisequently the happiness destroyed—then Bull'. Sarsa
parilla la a sovereign remedy. It Insists nature In the per•
fern:mice of her duty, braces the whole system, renews
permanently the natural energies, removes obstructions,
cheeks I•XCCSOPN, creates pure and healthy blood, and Imparts
health and happiness. Were ladles generally to adopt the
use of this Medicine, we would see far lees suffering, disease
and unhappiness among then) than now exists, health would
take the place of disease, the rosy cheek would succeed the
pallid face: we should have smiles instead of tears, and per
haps a happy long life Instuad of one cut short by disease,
or made miserable by continued suffering and affliction.
At that critical period termed the " turn of life," which ie
often attended with so much danger, Bull's Sarsaparilla is
found to exert a most benMicial effect. All ladies approach
ing this crisis. should I*. apprised of thin fact, and avail
themselves of this valuable Medicine.
A BEAUTIPUL CLEAR SKIN.
How too all admire a clear, beautiful, white skin, and a
rosy colored cheek. How often do we see persons, not pos.
wooing this .desideratum so devoutly to be wished," re
sorting to cosmetics, lotions, washes, paints, and coloring
materials, to restore to them a semblance of what disease
has deprived them of, and that, too, with great injury to
the kin. Bull's .Sarsaparilla in the boot Cosmetic known.
It beautifies the skin by removing every particle of morbid
and diseased matter from the blood, making it pure, heal
thy and vigorous, giving activity to every minute vessel,
and changing the yellow and dark countenance to the
bloom and freshness of youth. Ladies, abandon the use of
paints and mixtures, and use Bull 's Su rsapanila , the only
effectual remedy. "A word to the Rice in sufficient," and
a hint is enough for the ladies.

HU;TINODON, March 11, 1850
For the benefit of sufferers like me . and oth
ers, I do freely declare the following facts :—I
have suffered more or less for twenty years with
the most desperate Rheumatism, and also for 18
years at times with most desperate pain in the
stomach, .vhich at times seemed to expand as if
it would burst; also for many years I was ter
ribly troubled With cramps in my legs—indeed
I can't describe all my sufferings for so long a
time. I could do no business for the last ten
years, nor had I a single good night's sleep for
the last five years. I never could find any relief
worth mentioning, until last November, when I
met with the Extract of American Oil, and to
my no little surprise I got relieved of all in a
short time and to this day. I respectfully in
vite all who choose to call and see me upon the
matter; such I can tell much more. I can say
it has done wonders on others around me in va
rious complaints. If ever an article was put
out honestly, this is one. I know it sells rap
idly here. No family in the land will be with
out it when they once know its use.
JOHN BUMBAUGH,
HUNTINGDON, March 11, 1850.
I do hereby certify to the following facts:—
That I have suffered for five years past with
pain in my back, spine and kidnies, and never
received any relief but by bleeding, for a few
days only. Last November I got a bottle of
the Extract of American Oil, I used it inward
ly, and to my surprise it removed the complaint
in a short time. From what I have seen and
heard of ttal wondrous effects upon others in des
perate cases, I can freely recommend it, and be
lieve it to be worth all the humbugs in the land,
and do believe it will do all for what it is so
highly recommended. C. COUTS.
LEWISTOWN, March 1850.
I never before gave a certificate, but this I
give with a clear conscience for the benefit of
sufferers like myself. I suffered with the Ery
sipelas or St. Antony's Fire, mixed with Tet
ter, so pronounced by my doctor, for 12 years.
The suffering•l endured is beyond description.
At times all my hair came off tny head. During
this time I had no relief for more than a few
days at a time. Last October 1 got a bottle of
the Extract of American Oil, used it inwardly
and outwardly, and to my great astonishment
and my neighbors, I got clear of it in a short
time, and to this time I have noticed its won
drous effects on other desperate complaints. I
do assure my friends and the public that it is
indeed a wonderful thing for many complaints.
I invite all whochoose to visit me inLewistown.
My maiden name was Nancy Magarky, now
Widow NANCY VINES.

their art, enabled themselves to take pictures At

other establishments, for pictures of equal size—

TRAITS, consisting of some hundreds, embraces a
collection of DISTINGUISHED AMERICANS
worthy the attention of visitors to their rooms,
which are OPEN AT ALL TIMES.
The collection which they had deposited in the
exhibition of the Franklin Institute, was constant
ly surrounded by dense crowds of admirers, who
were loud in their praise of the artists' skill.
To guard against every possibility of mistake,
they guarantee every picture to be of the best ma
terials, and unless it is entirely satisfactory to the
customer, NO CHARGE IS MADE,
