INDIAN CORN IN ENGLAND.—The Lon
don Times gives u very flattering ne
w:mat of nil experiment—a saccessfut
one, if the Times, is to be credited--re
cently made in England, on the pract lea=
bility of advantageously cultivating
maize in that land of wet, cold summers.
The description of the plant as given
in the Times is somewhat novel. It
says:-
4= The appearance of the plant is pe-
culiarly graceful—far nine so, indeed,
than that of any ordinary corn field.—
The stems which run up perfectly
i,raigth, are generally from four to live
I,et high, arid are much thicker than the'
larger wheat shave. They throw out
from the root upwards a succession of
flaglike leaves the stein. terminating in
a little tuft, front which spring the ears
of corn, sqmewhat irregularly clustered ;
and, in this instance, apparently not
heavy laden."
The Philadelphia American, speaking
of this subject, alludes to the failure of
the Cobbett experiment some twenty
years ago, and expresses a fear that the'
present experiment experimentalists
have got hold of the wrong plant, and

A HANDSOME IND RITANCE.—Judge
JONES, in the Court of Common Pleas of
Nurthhemton county, (Pa.) has set aside
the will of Peter Miller, a wealthy old
bachelor who died lately at Easton which
was affirmed by the Supreme Court.—
The entire estate therefore, amonating
to nearly $400,000, with the exception
of a few trifling legacies, which are valid
under the will, goes to P. Miler, of Ohio
the nephew and only heir at law of the
deceased. The EusToM \Vntn, says:—
"The fortunate individual who conies
into possession of so large an estate is
about sixty years of nge, and resides in
Morgan county, Ohio, where he has wor
ked a farm as tenant for a long time.—
Ile has a large family—a full baker's
dozen of children, all poor."
BtT BY A SNAKE. -A young man nam
ed George Keller, of Union township,
'Jerks county, was bitten by a rattle
snake, a few days since, under these cir
cumstances: In endeavoring to kill the
snake, it had nearly disappeared in the
crevise of a rock, when he attempted to
cut off its rattles, and, in doing. so, was
bit on the joint of the fiver. With
remarkable presence of . mind, he imme
diately cut out the bitten part, and wound
a striwg tightly totind the finger to prc
vent the circulation of the poison
through his system. The bandage was
afterwards cut loose, and the hand and
arm soon became enormously swollen ;
but, by medical aid, he was afterwards
cured.
OHIO AND PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD.—
The Board of Directors, at their meet
ing at Massillon, on Saturday, Septem
ber 29th, placed under contract twenty
seven miles of the line in Ohio, making
with the twenty-three miles in Pennsyl
vania contracted from July, fifty miles
now under contract. The work in Ohio
is to be paid for by the local subscriptions
in the counties in which it lies.
STILL DESCENDING.—Gen. Hamilton,
formerly editor of a leading paper in
Portsmouth has accepted the appoint ,
bent of Secretary of Oregon. The
General .has been going down ever since
he left the tripod. He went from the
editorial ranks into the military and now
he has taken the Secretary ship of Ore

Complexion, jaundiced eye, depression of spirits,
pain in the side and shoulder, weariness of body,
bitter taste in the mouth"! Such is the inquiry,

is the liver which is diseased, ond the Cholagogue

ID" BETTER DIE THAN LIVE, if

horrible Ague, exclaims the poor sufferer whose
life has become a burden from the racking parox
ysms of an intermittent, and whose confidence
in human aid iv destroyed by the failure of rem
edies to produce lila promised relief. Such has
been the situation of thousands who are now
rejoicing in all the blessings of health from the
use of Dr. Osgood's India Cholagogue. In no

in the above exclamation is on no sul•ject more

Dn. Ose. B. Oussn:--Dear Sir—l feel it nor
only a pleneut b, but a duty, to make known to
you rind to the public, (if you desire it.) the stir.
prising effects of the Oxygenated Bitters," in
relieving me from that most discouraging dim.:
der, Dyspepsia. I have been afflicted for about
seventeen years with the usual attendant 'lmp
tonta, viz: constipation of the bowels, headache,
pain in the cheat, flatulence aridity of the stom
ach, and severe nausea ; and for months at a time
not the least particle of moisture would appear
on the surface of the chest or limbs, and most
of the time I was ex tretnely bilious. I have used
various remedies, have been strict in my diet,
have been dosed with calomel and emetics day
after d a y by physicians, but all to 110 gocd pur
pose. Hearing of the wonderful effects of the
"Oxygenated Bitters," in the cure of Dyspepsia,
I procured sonic as n last resort , have used four
bottles of the medici e, and find the bad synip
tome a ll removed, and myself once more in the
enjoyment of health. None but the Dyspeptic
sufferer, who has felt a I the horrors of the di,
ease, can at all appreciate the value of the medi•
tine. I most sincerely hope that all will Mono
trial of the medicine, and with the be able to re.
joice in the return of health.

DEAIt Slit :—lt gives me great pleanure to it.
form you that the Oxygenated Bitters," with
which you furnished my wife, has wrought e
cure in her cure. About two years since, toy
wife was violently attacked With neuialgia in
the fore, through the chest, in the wrists and
ankles. So violent was the disease, added to
general derangement of the female system, that
her strength was completely prostrated, her flesh
wasted, and she rendered miserable indeed. I
feel grateful for the restoration of her health, and
in duty bound to give publicity to the above
facts, that others similarly afflicted may know
where to seek for cure. Truly your friend,
THOMAS KIDDER.

For some twenty years I had suffered severe.
ly from humorel Asthma. I was compelled to
sit up one-third of the night. and the rest of the
time my sleep was intertupted by ,iolent fits of
coughing and great diffici lty ql breathing. In s
all my attendance upon our comic I never went
to bed in Northampton in twenty years but twice,
and then was compelled to get up. Now I lin
in bed without difficulty, and sleep soundly. 1
Loos the usyeeriated Bluer.," according t o
directions. The violent symptoms immediately
abated, and perseverance in the use of tl e rem.
edv has removed all its troublesome consequen
ces. Ph° value of such a remedy is incalculable,
and I hope its virtues may he widely diffused and
its beneficent agency extensively employed."
