PARSON BROWOLOW'S OPINION IF THE
MORALS OF NEW ORLEANS.—The Rev W.
G. Brownlow,of the Jonesborough (Ten.)
hig, writes from New Orleans, to that
taper, giving an account, by no means
flattering, of the Crescent City. He Bays;
"New Orleans is 'a head and shoul
der taller' than any city I ever was
Nay, it is 'a pole and compass' deeper in
the sinks of iniquity than any city I was
ever in. The devil operates here, upun
a large scale, and really has his barracks
here, together with the most of his IC•
fruiting officers. •
The Rev. Dr. Clapp, of this city, has
delivered a sermon, in which it is made
to appear that there is no hell in the
•ext life, in which to punish Sinners!
This is an important discovery and re
vives the drooping spirits of thousands
here, who know that if the vulgar no-
tion of a hell in the next life be true,
they will have to pay for the roast. It
is more important to the inhabitants of
New Orleans to have the doctrine of hell
fire and future punis , ntent done away
with, than of any ciiy I ever was in."
THE SounEß's REWARD.—The Alba
ny Journal, in reviewing the advance•
moot of our army in Mexico says:—
"While a greatful nation was awarding
honor to the accomplished and
gallant leader of this victorious ar
my, the curious and vindictive members
of the administration were plotting his
disgrace. While quartered in the 'Halls
of the Montezumas,' and congratulating
the gallant army upon the success which
had followed tleir efforts, Gen. Scott
was stripped of command, placed under
arrest, and ordered to appear before a
Court of Inquiry of which that man of
dirty work, CALEB CUSHING, was a mem
ber ! This was the reward which this
government prepared for him! Geu.
Scott was placed under arrest, and San
ta. Anna was set at liberty."
flj Judge PATTON, of Pittsburg, has
decided that when a man becomes an
habitual drunkard alter receiving an ap•
pren lice, it is sufficient cause for the ap•
prentico to claim a discharge from his•
indentures.
THE NOXINATION.—The Reading Jour
nal, a Taylor paper, thinks that the
nomination of Gen. SCOTT by the Na.
tional Convention, is becoming daily
more probable. If that be the case, re
marks the Journal, the success of the
party at the election is a matter of cer
tainty. Scott is sure to carry Pennsyl
vania, Ohio and New York to start With,
—a very good beginning. Fie will have
every State Gen. Harrison carried, and
the hired bands of office holders will
contend against hint in vain.
A DARING PROCLAMATION has been is

vana, in which they invite the inhabi
tants of Cuba, to assert their indepen
dence.

Pals are a certain cure for every desc iption of
hoadach, because they cleanse the body from those
morbid humors, which, if confined in the stomach.
are the cause of nausea and sickness, want of ap
petite, disagreeable taste in the mouth, had breath,
wasting of the gums, decayed teeth, and many
other distressing complaints , and when taken into
the circulation, and thrown upon the various parts
of the body, give rise to every malady incident to
