    Loco Foco Humbug; cry.
What has become of the boasted re
sumption promised by the leaders of the
Loco Foco party? Did they not promise ,
before the last general election, that if
they gained the power they would make
the " rascally Banks" resume ? Did they
not threaten the repeal of the " odious re
lief bill," and promise to compel the
Banks, one and all, to shell out the cash,
or go down and wind up their concerns?
Yes, all this they promised. Well, they
got the power—the Legislature met —they
railed out against the Banks—made " pa
triotic" speeches for home consumption—
spent the winter and the people's money
at Harrisburg. legislating on Banking--
and finally passed their sanative bill, and
went home to mingle among their constit-.
vents. The time is now near at hand
when they will return to an Extra Ses
sion. Bat where is their promised specie?
Shout it among the hills and in the val
leys, and the mountains will echo—where?
but you hear not the joyous jingle of dol
lars. No, no. Your rulers and your
representatives have let off their " indig
,iation"—they have taxed their ingenuity
.o the utmost; and they have embodied
their wisdom in a resumption law—but
where is the resumption? Shout it again,
and the mountains still echo and re-echo—
RESUMPTION. It is true, a few Banks who
found it convenient, have resumed specie
payments ; but these are, " like angel
visits, few and far between," and their
notes are as scarce as gold. A majority
of the Banks continue to do business as
they did before the Legislature met; and
the people, instead of having gold and
silver, the constitutional currency, are
glad to get what the Loco Focos delight
to denominate " shin-piasters," which are
issued in direct violation of the law. Andl
instead of repealing the relief bill, the
l
party cursed us with over issues of Erie

COUNTFRFEITERS ARRESTED.—Two
men, calling themselves Francis Miller
and John Gyger, who stood in need of
some change, presented at the counters
of the Farmers' Bank of Lancasterland
the Lancaster Bank, two five hundred
dollar notes, of the Commercial Bank of
Pennsylvania, both of which were taken
in exchange for Lancaster paper. Had
these cheviliers de industrie left town im
mediately, they might have easily escaped
with their booty, but they remained to
view the beauties of the place, and look
about them, probably to ascertain whether
any of our merchants wanted to procure
" Eastern Funds." An hour or two af
ter they had passed the notes, one of them
went into a tavern and bought a drink,
n d threw down an eagle to pay for it.--
Mr. Hinkle, the tavernkceper, immedi
ately recollected that he had seen it stated
in a newspaper that a man had been rob
bed near Wilmington, of several hundred
dollars in gold. Suspicion was at once
aroused, and shortly after he informed Mr.
Hughs, our vigilant city constable, who,
in company with Mr.llinkle, started im
mediately in pursuit. They had a hard
chase, but finally succeeded in capturing
the rogue near the cocoonery on the Rea
ding road. The other, we beleive, was
caught in town. Both are now in jail,
fully committed for trial.—Lan. Union
