LOCO FOCO EXTRAVAGANCE. We neglected until now to state that Mr POINDEXTER, one of the Commissioners appointed by Congress to investigate the New York Custom House affairs has made report, bringing to light iniquitous practi ces carried on in that department, which seem almost incredible. Mr. Hoyt, during his three year's continuance in office, char. ged the Government with upwards of $2OO 00 for writing sand, which at the ordi- I nary rates would have purchased more I than 400 bushels. The item of steel pens and quills during the same period amounts to $6265 16. He also charged 8144 W ream for imperial paper. And all other items are in proportion to those above specified, which we have selected merely to give the reader an idea of the unprece dented extravagance and swindling of the late Loco Foco Administration. We may give more of the report hereafter. DENTAL SURGERY. Before this sheet, therefore, reaches our readers, blood may have flowed :—N. ✓imerican. CADET ARMORY, PROVIDENCE, May 17-6 k o'clock, P. M. Dear Sir--We are in open rebellion here ;an outbreak is expected evry mo ment. lam drafted in the Cadet Compa ny ; I shall leave for New York to-mor row, if I can. The suffrage military have just taken possession of the State cannon ; they are now going to take the Arsenal. The crisis has come. We are all in arms. Yours, &c. No time to write. lam at the cars--they are off in a mo ment. Just before writing this I was in the private council of Gov. king; there is a list of 1000 men who have pledged themselves to conic nut at a moment's no tice--they are now issuing the orders.— The military are coming in from all parts of the State. The Dorr troops are collect ing, and in less than 48 hours the question will he settled. The following extra is from the Provi• deuce Journal office : Office of the Provdence Journal, Tuesday, 2 P. M. Mr. Doer remains at the house of Bar rington Anthony. 'The house is guarded by soldiers, and a connon is placed by the side of it. At about 1 o'clock, the signal of alarm was given, and according to or ders, some two or three hundred men as sembled. A portion of them were armed. The alarm was given in consequence of a report that the Sheriff' was about to arrest Dorr. The crowd was very much excited. Burlington Anthony addressed them, and declared that Doer should never be taken from that house alive. A voice in the crowd demanded to be led on to the at . tack of the arsenal, and several responded to,it ; but the orator cautioned them against committing any "overt act." What an idea of government is this—that a go vernment, which they say is legally esta blished, cannot commit an overt act! Mr. Dorr ordered the military to meet them in the afternoon " prepared for action." It is said that Mr. Dorr offered one of the marshals in his procession any place in the gift of the State, if he would lead the attack on the arsenal. He declined. Why does not Mr, Dorr lead the attack bimselll The New York Herald, second, edition of vesterday, says.— When the train passed through Provi 'deuce last evening, at half past six o'clock, the Suffrage party had all their plans laid for taking forcible possession of the State at 3 o'clock this morning. It was reported by Mr. Anthony, the Sull9ge Sheriff, in whose house Gov. Dorr mums for the present, that the Suffrage *army then in Providence under arms timbered one thousand men, that they had already taken possession of the State Artillery, and that they had determined to make an attack on the Arsenal this morning. A WORD TO THE SEDENTARY:-.—ThiS term included all those who pass their time within doors: embracing clerks and stu dents, the majority of mechanics and pro• fessional men, with almost the entire female population of all cities. These persons cannot possible enjoy health without using a vegetable purga tive medicine of sufficient power to over• come that languor of the circulation, and inactivity of the stomach and bowels, which must necessarily result from want ,of exercise. I Brandreth's Vegetable Universal Pills being a mild cathartic, and always acting harmoniously with the system, will be found singularly effective in these cases: because they cleanse the blood from all impurities, remove every cause of pain or weakness, and restore the constitution to perfect health and vigor. Purchase them in Huntingdon of Wm. Stewart, and only of agents published in another part of this paper. MYSTERIOUS.—A gentleman belonging to on of the most ancient and wealthy families of this city, who must be well known to nu merous friends, having since the year 1818 up to recently, been bent nearly double, and for several years confined to his bed, has been restored to good health—has regained his natural erect position—and has quitted his carriage, and now walks with easel! We believe this is the gentleman's own descrip tion as near as possible, and there is no ex ageration in it. We will give inquirers his address, and doubt not his humane feelings will excuse the liberty; so that any one doubt ing may know these facts—though he re quests his name may not appear in print.— Among other similar instances, Mr. Jas. G. Reynolds, 144 Christie street, has been re stored, and will give personal assurances of the facts of his case. Both were rheumatism and contracted cords and sinews. How has this been dote? Answer.—By the Indian Vegetable Eli xer internally, and Hewes' Nerve and Bone Lin iment externally.—N. Y. Herald. For sale by THOS. READ, Huntingdon, and JACOB SNYDER, Hollidaysburg. May 25, 1842. The extraordinary virtues hourly develo ped in " Dalley's Magical Pain Extractor," induce me to come forward to inform every person that its equal is not to be found for the relief of pain and cure of burns, scalds, and injuries generally. My wife for 6 years endured a constant course of suffering by Salt Rheum all over her hands, arms and neck, and now with much pleasure and thankfulness do I publicly state, that she is perfectly cured. She had before used 6 dif ferent remedies, besides having had much of the first medical Advice, but to no purpose. It is now more than a year since this cure was effected, yet there is not the slightest indication of a return of the complaint. Ca ses of the most alarming piles constantly yield to its influence.
