THE JOURNAL. One country, one conetituttonone deetin Huntingdon, 00.20, 1841. Our readers will find the Election Re.. turns in another column. We have been universally used up." Can any one wonder why we have not written any edi ,,rial ? When we get off our mourning weeds for the dead, and the wounded heal ed, we will pick our flint" and give the enemy a crack or two occasionally, to let them know that we are alive yet. Porter's majority in this state will be about 20,000. 1J ha would have thought? But as an old farmer told us to day. I expect the people thought he had got the state in trouble, and he might have a chance to get it cut." It will be seen by our paper, that Mc- Lend, the canadian braggart, who got himself and the two countries into a diffi• culty, has been acquitted. Of course the dogs of war" s ill be done with their growling. /JAR tN ENBRYO.—By a private letter fro:n Washington to a Navy Officer it: this city, received on Friday, we learn that orders have been issued from the Na vy Department to fit out the steam Fri gates Mississippi at our Navy Yard, and the Missouri at New York, with all pos• sthle despatch ; and also to prepare seve• rat of the vessels intl.• ded for the Home Squadron for sea service at once. The Mississippi, we are toll, can be tilted out in a month ready to proceed to sea, with the exception of the large iroa -shaft which is being manufactured in the place of tha one lost from a vessel in the East river at New York about two months since. The Missouri will require twice that length of time to complete her. These orders look like doing business in earnest.--Phileed. Messenger. COLT, THE MVEDF.REH,—The Bridge- 1 port, Connecticut, Standard, says:—"llis father is an aged man, whose years have been embittered by the folly of his son, and this last horrible act huts 'filled up the measure of his cup of sorrow,' which may soon lay him in the grave. We are in formed that the intelligence of the arrest of his son, which he first learned by hear ing a stranger read it at the City lintel, has completely driven his reason from its throne, and made a wreck of all his earthly peace and happiness." The present season.—it should be re membered at this season of the year. tha. our bodies are more liable to become dls• eased than at any other period ; because the budden changes of the weather, by acting as they do upon the Constitution, and quality of the Blood, produce a foul state of Blood, and other fluids which gen crate corruption, and net unfrequently death. It is an established truth, that n“ pain or sickness can be experienced ex• cept from the presence of depraved humors which if not positively corrupt, soon be come so if not speedily removed from the body. On the first feeling of pain or sick ness, the body must have a vegetable cleansing in order to prevent fatal results taking place. For it is at all times easi er to prevent than to cure disease : because by taking a preventative course we do not debilitate the natural functions of the body, but rather strengthen and assist them. Brandreth's Vegetable Univer sal Pills are all that is required. The, cleanse the Blood from all impurities, re move every cause of pain or weakness, and preserve the constitution in such a eta , - of health and vigor as usual changes can not affitct. In the Island of Jamaica, on the 27th of August last, of congestive fever, after la short illness of three days, HENRY LLOYD M oCoNNELL, Esq. formerly of this Borough, aged about 53 years. Mr. McConnell was born and raised in this county, and to the citizens watu well known. His education, though from domestic circumstances never formally completed, was quite good, and nature had endowed him with rare talents. His remarkable eloquence in common con versation, was celebrated. He formerly took an active share in the politics of the county, and the State, as a member of the Anti-masonic party, but of late years ho rather retired from political life. He went with his acco:nplished wile to an estate in the West Indies, and there he fell--far from his native hills, and his early friends--among strangers, soothed only by the endearments of his young and bereaved wife. Many, very many' will mourn his fate. But we who sur vive, must in due tip• e follow him to the tomb, for "it ta appointed unto man once to die." Pennsylvania Election. COUNTIES. BANKS.
