    HYMENEAL RFIGI STER
The silken tie that binds two willing hearts
MARRIED—By Josh. Greenland, Esq
Mr. CALEB SWOOPE, of Union town•
Ishii). to Miss ANN DEAN, of Hopevreli
township, all of Huntingdon. county.
OBITUARY RECORD.
"..in the midst of life we are in death."
MED—In this Borough, on Satur
day evening the 5.12nd inat., about two o'-
clock I'. M., after an illness of a few days
Mrs. JANE JOHNSTON, relict of the
late Rev. John Johnson, pastor of the Pres
byterian church in this place, in the 70th
year of her age.
The deceased, through a long life, up-
wards of fifty years of which, she resided
in this borough, bore a character worthy
of all estimation, for general usefulness,
and enduring piety. An early member
of hat church of which her husband, when
liviug, was an honored head; she continu
ed, by works, to prove the sincerity of her
religious professions— these professions,
front which, she never wandered, an I
which are so constant; to the old ago of a
true believer. Truly, we can say, that
she "endured unto the end," and have
every reason to believe that she died "the
death of the righteouS." To such, death
is but a release from the cares and trials
of earth; and, though numerous friend;
and neighbors are left to monrning and re
gret, still they may find consolation from
that abiding confidence, that "their loss
has been her gain."— [Comnrtnicaled.
Duncansville, on Sunday,
the 16th inst. of Puerperal Apoplexy, SA•
RAE, consort of . Geo. W. M'Bride, and
youngest daughter of Joseph Patton, Esq.
—aged 2:3 years.
Of an amiable and lovely disposition,
aria in possession of a mind of no ordinary
caste, she was esteemed and beloved in
the varied relations of life Which she sus•
tained. Her death has not only filled with
sadness and sorrow a circle of relatives,
Out a community mourns. In the prime
of life, her pilgrimage on earth has termi
nated; that brow on whiCh sat the bloom
of sunny youth, and radient beauty, now
lies low, wreathed with the cold snows of
death. How titre it is that death loves a
shining mark! She has left friends who
feel themselves called upon to pass thro'
the deep waters of affliction—in their
hearts a tender cord is sundered,—an'
affectionate consort and a beloved sisterl
and daughter is taken from the family
circle. But let them reflect that their loss
is her infinite gain. '
Her remains were interred on Monday ,
in the family - burying ;round, attended by
it numerous concourse of sympathizing
friends.— Reg.
At his residence in Hollidaysburg, on
Sunday, the 16th inst. Mr. JAMES An
-1 non, aged about SO years.
The deceased was followed to his grave
by his fellow members of the WASHING
TUN GREYS, in military costume, and by a
lengthy procession of his friends and ac.
quatntances. Fur several years past he
had filled the arduous and responsible post
of Agent, at this place, for the Western
Transportation Co.
At a meeting of the Washington Greys
held at their armory, on Monday evening,
May 17th 1841, it was, on motion of Liene.
Landis, Unanimously
Resolved, That the members of this
corps have heard with feelings of deep re•
Bret of the sudden and unexpected death
of their late member, JAMES ARTHUR.
Resolved, That as a remark of our re
spect for his memory, ahtl s rrow for his
loss, we will wear crape on the left arm
for thirty days, and attend his funeral
(with consent of the family) in our milita
ry capacity.
Resolved, That Major Williams be re
quested to convey a copy of these resolu
tions to the widow of the deceased, and to
assure her of the sleep condolence of the
Greys with her in her affliction.—Reg.
